[Music] all right welcome to podcast four of the Iron Rodcast I am Jon joined here by Rhett welcome back rat jock voted for James today yes very good very good now we're proceeding on to my joke welcome Pete good to see you at church today despite the fact that you did mild yard work yesterday yep yep actually I did a lot of yard work yesterday I I tallied it up I think I was out there for about four hours four hours worth of work in his defense we did not have a soccer game so his excuse for last week is still kind of valid right you did listen I did like okay well um and once again I think we might be rushed for time cuz I just barely walked in because my calling came a-calling strangely toward the very tail in there that's okay there's not a lot to happen today good good I know I know a lot of pressure Sunday school wise because our new Sunday school yes terrains this week and I have no idea what the lesson was but I I heard people complimenting her did she do a good job I think she did do a good job she didn't and I think she's gonna get a lot better too there were a couple of times I was like oh she did that but it's like annoying stuff with me I can't believe a teacher just did that I think it was it was more like III don't think you should have phrased it I think she'll get better I think she'll begin teaching more like Peter Nash no that is not what I was saying at all those words in my mouth no I thought she did really really well it was clear she had a strong grasp on the material I know that she had put in a lot of fun in preparation of course granted she had like what three weeks to get ready for this because of State Conference and yeah but I think she'd do if she had three days and they could be just as good sure yeah so I'm excited I'm very excited I often time to get a little annoyed when we when I teach opposite a bad teacher because I don't like and then the week that you come on teach you you pretty much redo their lesson because you got a fix I've never fixed anybody's lesson at all though the the one and I wanted to say this is a critique the one thing I noticed is it felt rushed the entire thing I think it's because she wanted to cover the entire yeah stuff which is almost impossible to do especially if you've got good material which she it's tough because senators really only get about a half an hour you're at least an hour Ward because when sacrament lets out everybody then Mills around for a while Sunday school should be starting like ten after so we should have like forty minutes but right we we never get were able to get to thoughts occur to me maybe throwing this out for a calling a war gonna hurt her yeah people Wrangler does someone specifically there in in the chapel to get people to Sunday school are they do they have a cattle prod I don't know what they have I'm just thinking they had their a really charismatic person who like gets into conversations and just just kind of says hey you guys I think it needs to be a sister because I think the guys all-male around actually make you make fun of that when I when I had good lessons back and they want to teach and if I knew is a good lesson I girls a hey you gonna come listen to my lesson like I used to go around to the group teach right are you gonna come listen and get people to go up but I'm gonna do it next week he's teaching you coming yeah maybe we should maybe we should of course I I have a weird calling because kind of part of my calling is to get people to stick around because remember committee because we have the new member meeting right after yeah and he would so I have to go my other thing that I thought is I think it's actually kind of commendable that she was able to get through the lesson because that's one of my big thing that I did that I don't like is you know Sunday school teacher saying well we only have the good stuff left but we're out of time as I was actually talking to Annie today I was saying you know you did a really good job and she was saying how I just felt like I was trying to get to all of the other stuff and I wanted to get to the you know the discussion at the end there but I finally got it was like well that's perfect I mean that's what you got to do as a teacher you have to say okay I definitely want to cover this day and then you have the other things that you're like okay I can cut this we don't need to have a discussion so she did well she grinned yeah it's perfect oh if you weren't in Jon the lesson was oh yeah from numbers was a the brass serpent bird yeah the fiery serpents the the whiny in the 40 years which one thing I learned it was two years then 40 years I never knew that two years of what the Israelites wandering around before they were told that it was gonna be another 40 years oh so 42 years yeah section 42 life the universe and everything comes around there's a lot of new numerology today we're gonna there were $7 comb - yeah so it was the Israelites were you know annoyed by all they were getting was manna like oh man Amana Nana when can we get some some real meat they complained that it was little like it well not 40 years I don't know at this point yeah I would've at least six months to a year but they would have been eating it so anyway the Lord sends them quick do you remember well okay do you remember that month and when we were living at Liberty Square right I bought 30 ramen I was gonna make a Roman calendar like this is what I'm gonna get for the next thirty days I only made it like 23 days really you gave up after 23 days yeah yeah well and we learned from supersize me if she can't do with McDonald's yes I mean so I mean okay two years 40 years man question I had today wandering in the wilderness what does that mean were they moving everyday where they move in every six months because that's what I would have complained about oh yeah I mean forget the food I'm gonna pack up my gear often in US like in my head I kind of think okay when they say wandering like it was always their mind there's some final destination but they probably kind of like the Indians did like they were camped for a season or maybe there's two season maybe a year yeah possibly maybe if we want to pull out that the maps here and just take a quick yeah well show these on the podcast everybody look over here so so anyway here's what here's what happened they leave Egypt and they head down here this is the Sinai Peninsula right here so they come down here mount oh shoot what's the anyway sign a is right down here so they head down the coast for a while they get to Sinai and that's where they're at then they start to make their way up and they come up and come around and it's right when they get to about right up here I can't remember which mountain it is that's where they're at when they're there up at the mountain then they send that the the twelve people down into the valley to say okay go and take a look at this and report back to us so they're roughly right about there so that's okay from here well from from down there that's a you know that's how long it took him to do that so branded there were a few hundred thousand people to move so I would imagine they probably went for a little while rested for a while I know I probably set a bunch of my stuff up in a specific spot put a stick up saying this is my stuff and come back to that spot over and over probably cash myself I could see that but are we talk about me no did he move over a thousand miles geographically yeah you know I don't know how long how many mom's there's a thing I mean that's 250 I mean there's no way that they may have traveled more than that maybe fire would've had a circle yeah we're talking not that far I don't know for 40 years like I assume they rested like they didn't move they probably didn't establish themselves I guess if you didn't actually build the houses you're probably wandering there were probably way stations at some point where they're like okay let's fill up water and how long is it gonna take for you know a few hundred thousand people to fill up water how is it that many it was I think within the Book of Numbers they actually do a count that's why they call it the Book of Numbers but I don't know I don't know the exact number okay I don't that's all other way I talk about the less it was just really good okay I've got a couple talked about in numbers chapter 11 verses 10 through 15 I'm just gonna go ahead and read this here she is so this is after that the people are coming to Moses and saying oh man I wish why can't we have something besides manna you know back in Egypt we used to have you know garlic and onions leave on Miller's and cucumbers everything smells oh yeah I guess probably but no wasn't isn't there a verse where they ate so much quail that they bonded it out oh yeah yeah it does talk about that yeah at least I think it did I don't know the point I wanted to get to starting in verse 10 then Moses heard the people weep throughout their families every man in the door of his tent and the anger of the Lord was kindled greatly Moses was also displeased and Moses said unto the Lord wherefore half-cell afflicted thy servant and wherefore have I not found favor in thy sight that thou layest the burden of all this people upon me have I conceived all this people have I begotten them that thou should have say unto me carry them in bosom as a nursing father Bharath the suckling child unto the land which thou swearest unto their fathers when should i have flesh to give unto all this people for they weep unto me saying give us flesh that we may eat I am NOT able to bear all this people alone because it is too heavy for me and if thou deal thus with me kill me I pray thee out of out of hand if I have not found favor in thy sight and let me not see my wretchedness and I love these verses because not just because of the fact that Moses is just complaining saying oh why me you know this is so bad just kill me it seems as though the Israelites are the most dramatic people ever but in fairness they did put up with a lot but what I love about this so much is the fact that Moses has had so many great experiences in speaking with the Lord and so many times he's come back to the Lord and said I just don't think it's possible or you know I'm not sure how we're gonna do this or you know why me why me and I love that he's a regular person how many times have I been in a situation where I'm like a son of a gun why in the world do I have to do this why am I the only one who's doing anything around here and I like the fact that Moses who is clearly chosen of the Lord has these moments where he is weak as well and you know I I just love that he is a human just like the rest of us and that struck me really well that's pretty cool how did the how the Lord respond to that ah let's see and the Lord said unto Moses gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel whom thou knows of the elders of the people and officers over them so at this point he appoints 70 people to assist him so like in Karen and what can I learn from this that I mean because there there are times in the Old Testament where the Lord kind of rebukes people for you know seemingly kind of minor things but in this case you know one thing we his hey you can you can kind of bargain with the Lord a little bit if you want to get something done you you can you could work something out you can go yam to them you know and tell them how you're feeling and and he'll be like it here's 70 guys yeah I mean my I guess my final point is when we look at leaders and we say man I can't believe they were rude to me or I can't believe they said that you know what they're human beings just like the rest of us and they're gonna get frustrated and tired and they're not gonna be you know as engaged in whatever thing you think they should be engaged in you know they get just as tired they have families they have jobs just like you and now they have a greater responsibility cut him some slack a little bit yeah did we the other week remember what was it didn't I get I oh I got my my paycheck from being in the beard movie the Mormon Battalion and I look at the envelope and I said to you I can't believe the church just sign-ins Ryder to me my name wrong on the envelope for those people who don't know Simon's Ryder was a member of the church he had oh he had joined and he received a revelation but when the Prophet Joseph Smith wrote it down he misspelled his name and so he said oh well you clearly can't be a prophet if you can't even get my name spelled right and then he left the church yeah so I left the church for a couple hours a couple weeks ago unfortunately it wasn't on a Sunday and I'm glad you made your way back it didn't really affect my life okay anything else about the lesson I guess I have one more thing neither neither of you know I still don't really know yeah I'd use look upon the pastor pastor pastor I used to have that poster is good I love I love the caduceus so the in chapter 21 is when we know I don't know what chapter it's in Oh chapter 13 Moses sends the twelve spies down and they all basically come back with a couple of exceptions talk about this yeah we did yeah they they all say you know hey this is this is a horrible place or you know yes to have some good stuff but there's all of these people down there we can't possibly beat them and I correct me if I'm wrong did we we may have talked about this but I wanted to talk about pointing out problems is bad isn't necessarily bad but refusing to be positive is bad did we talk about that no I don't I don't really think we talked about that because the Israelites have like they do what they should do they get a report of the land and part of the report of the land is the fact that there are these you know these people down there the problem that they that they made or the mistake that they made was the fact that they didn't think okay how can the Lord help us or in what do we need to do in order to fulfill the Lord's commandment for us to you know eventually go down and take in the land as an example I with the company that I work with from time to time the owners come up with ideas that are just like hey we think this is gonna be great this is gonna save the companies is gonna make millions of dollars off of this and I look at them and I think okay did you really think through all of these situations and so I then start to point out okay well what about this problem here and this problem here in this problem here and this problem here and I do it because i realistically don't think they've thought through everything and so I'm being the the voice in there who's trying to say okay think this all through if someone were to look from the outside and not realize the reason I'm pointing this stuff out they would think that I was just being negative to say oh man we shouldn't do this we shouldn't change we shouldn't do anything at all and that's like you're quite an apologist for the ten people who were no not at all they clearly made the mistake I mean they didn't even want to go down there because these people are too tough they're Giants we look like crickets in front of them grasshoppers grasshoppers thank you and they we just cannot possibly overcome them at all and which is ridiculous because what they did to the Egyptians and they managed to get away from them and they were one of the greatest powers around so yes that's interesting yeah and as you were saying I was trying to think of an example of someone being too negative you know cuz there is you know there's the practicality of it a lot of people don't know when they've gone from just being realistic it's kind of wallowing in the okay well I think now is a good time to give up and you know not you know I mean faith is involved in it so yeah anyway I yeah good lesson yeah look to the Lord the snake on the stick I always loved that story I think and I think we know it so I don't think we have to talk about though what's what's next week Pete I am Not sure the lesson after that one yes lesson 16 well in elders quorum and new teachers new counselors eat it pretty good his lesson was on elder Packers talk from from conference which was actually the first talk Saturday morning so I didn't missed it obviously yeah so I read it while he was giving lesson and he did you did all stood a pretty good job but the one thing I know what I mention about it is remember the story of Gideon and how he selected his army like there was too many of them and so apparently I've heard down and said the Lord the Lord's that haven't go to the water and drink and whoever cupped his bare hands but whoever just a face in the water yes the booth was weird I mean who does that I've done that in a mouse dream it's really refreshing yeah but it's true like and the funny part about that is I remember in Boy Scouts who did it and somebody push my friend's head all the way in the water and I'm like skidded right there do you know how many people he ended up with it was 300 yeah it's 300 that's right okay and that's weird it talks about him fighting off on you so harmfully 300 people and Kofi Sean Jon so Sean said you know he tried not to mention the movie 300 but he kind of yeah and I I really did because it was really similar cuz he was like so how like he was saying that I'd run knew their place it's like so why is it important you've got a small army we're doing their place I'm like lots of families and 300 like this is what it is that's all I want to say when he was in judges yeah there's you know maybe because that wasn't lost like you know itself is powerful they stole it the Greeks yes that really happened I know I know but the number I think they stole it from the old test they stole from the Jews I guess I mean I don't know the slide I saw the movie okay I don't really know the story very well but I mean it wasn't it they they were only allowed to have that many right yeah so maybe the governors of Greece so we transition to the topic of the week yeah I think because I have a good segue so the the the lesson some schools look the looking and living upon the thing the Sigma tan will talk about the efy and ironically enough no listen right appropriately enough the theme for efy that I helped satin Amin helped decide was look live from the Old Testament because the way that you fire works is every year they kind of cycle through the standard works they pick out a theme and we went from dr. Cummings to Old Testament so the guy was nervous we believe then we were to look and limb I thought it was so funny that we had that lesson today but efy let's give them background here Pete you've never been a fly I haven't never no no real contact with the acquire how it works with program is how you do it for the church a little bit yeah well yeah I taught seminary and Institute for a while that's part of let's see yes yeah that's CES efy from my understanding though is not specifically like promoted by the church I couldn't be wrong on that but I've never understood I always think there's like a third party thing I will clear that up just was closely affiliated and so they got to use BYU like that according to Wikipedia I think it was like started by one guy and I don't know what's happened since then okay Jon's authority of was he's a graduate four years yes yeah I spent I spent more time to efy than in high school so and I actually worked I would be if I once up in Logan actually I didn't go to BYU okay if I I went to graduate be with you but hey Cody a 5ue and then I worked for the FI office for a year so I saw the entire from hiring them the counselors clear up to the end you know all through the summer than the other summer starting over um I don't know how it started but yes the the church it's part of the CES program so it's just oh yeah it's under that's where we got our funding as su CES so it's just as much as institute or seminary and a lot of these structures the teachers come from the CES pool of instructors right that's who they contact yeah they pan to come and do it obviously so it's actually if you see this there's another there's a couple of other programs there's one I camera it's like for older more it's like for like 17 18 year olds that's not from the church but it's you know what it's called but it was like efy graduate the levels up it was fun we see it calls back I will I know no Boy Scouts yeah that's true but anyways efy and the reason want to talk about us because we all have a different came up somehow and I think what Jon brother Pazuzu kind of uh we were talking about loudness and energy versus spirit yeah yeah yeah that's how it came up I don't even know where to begin let's talk we'll start with that uh when I was here for why we had the you've got the participants themselves you've got the counselors who were over each group of about 12 people then you've got the coordinators who are the counselors and then you have the admin office people I was admin office people we used to joke that the only reason efy was successful because God wanted it to be ongoing office joke because the type of person and this is my viewpoint only is that the type of person that can be a counselor or even a coordinator is the 24/7 positive animated energy spirit which animated by the way there's what the word in Spanish this anima means like to have spirit or life or energy like that's like similar to animated kind of same thing like you know just that loud 24/7 tfy cliche and that that type of person we found is not very good at how do I say this nicely organization day-to-day organizational get the work done type stuff right they're really good with people and entertaining kids and things like that but as far as you know organizing and saying okay you know here is this shipment of stuff we're gonna ship it here you know a good example we got all the t-shirts for the entire year delivered to our office we have to split off the sizes and how many per location because not just be what you it's all throughout the country and the girl in charge of it instead of organizing a plan and said okay this is how we're gonna do it she decorated the entire office with balloons and streamers and size so we have to work at 8 a.m. and there's big sizes t-shirt day and I'm like okay so we go like okay cool see and that took you bro like that's cool when I come like that keep takes a tedious out of it what asteroid care what splashes like I don't know I thought we just divide them up a blanket Holly we really oh they're like 2:00 2:30 in the morning of like and they're not bad people it's just that it's a temper subtle which I'm not you know then finance that person so it's like I won't say I'm either than those people yeah so being in the FY office I look I and the healthy balance is struck every week of giving it to work you know there's sixteen hundred people in Provo our students or kids in Provo are remote locations I remember in Virginia that we were doing like two hundred kids in California was anywhere between four and thousand but BYU's definitely the biggest cuz they've got the housing and facilities for it my my bottom line taken holding is it is an amazing organization at major function it does things for kids and is it me know like what I ever I went to it and my experience was great and I remember thinking okay let's I'm just rambling I'm sorry but when I would tfy I came home super jazzed about the gospel I mean my cousin my cousin who you know was not so much answer to me he came but that was she wasn't his thing so to speak he loved it I remember test for me he cried it in which I've never seen him do my best friend Shane when we got why he took his ac/dc CDs and like shot him with a gun you like destroyed I'm like got rid of all the CDs like for a 16 year old kid that's like a huge deal I mean it was like you know was life-changing it really wasn't it only lasts a couple weeks maybe and then we bought all the CDs back but to be able to get a kid to do that I think is very impressive I don't know Jon what's your well I I think it's interesting you said that because one thing I was really confused about is I thought it was great oh it was so I I went for years and I was kind of bug that we have to do cheering in the spirit fingers and the make kind of ourselves sometimes spirit we didn't really do spirit fingers I'm just I'm just saying you know I mean it's just it's just that kind of well that kind of thing we do Cheers and we do cheers all the time we likes kids vignettes yeah we actually had my group we actually did a dance to let's get rocked by Def Leppard I like I guess Shane's saved that CD yeah yeah let's go celebrate yeah okay but I was bugged by a lot of that stuff you know in I mean a lot of people really liked it I mean people had fun doing it yes so you know cool whatever but I my favorite thing about it was the speakers and the different ways you know they got me to approach the gospel and seeing things in a more gospel oriented way like day-to-day life I'm like this is really great what I was surprised about and you kind of hit this a little bit was the effects of the f why don't last very long and I don't really know why you know oh okay and it's because in my life at this happens me over and over I get super excited about some of the super jazz for a couple weeks and then it totally fades out I read a book about a year ago it talked about using that energy instead of like well let's say you have the goal and you're like okay I'm gonna do I'm gonna wake up at 6:00 a.m. every day and go work out or whatever go to the gym yeah you do it for like a week and then you quit right well their thing was use that the momentum energy or the energy you have to create a momentum change instead of a one time change so instead of instead of using that to say okay I'm gonna do this you want to you you want to use that momentum to make a lifestyle change mm-hm and so it was does that make sense really doesn't make sense if I can draw something really quick here yeah we rollin well I never I was kind of describing it there it kind of makes me think that you know if here's how you normally are after efy your users drawing a graph there's going to be enjoying an obscene picture so you get a spike in we'll call this spirituality and so it Peaks because you're coming off of this hi you're amongst all of these people who are like-minded who are encouraging you to do good things you come home and you think oh man I got to get rid of the ac/dc which I've done that too so you do but after a while it starts to wear off because do you don't have 1600 people following you around you don't have a counselor and a friend who's you know coming into your dorm rooms and hey let's go let's go do this let's go let's go you're left just yourself so you're gonna you're gonna come back down it's the same thing in regular spirituality but what I would be interested to know is do you come back down to the same level or do you stay or do you not drop down as far as you were meaning that's you you come back down but you're still at a level higher than what you used to be and so as that continues on you know you do start to see progress i'ma granted that the best type of a graph would be one that's a continual gradual climb versus the constant up and down up and down up and down but I think as long as you're making progress then that's you know it's a good thing so my curiosity would be are is this sort of thing happening for the people that are going there and if it is then I would say okay I can live with all of the ridiculousness the quote-unquote spirit finger the same boy you know the chairs and what have you if it is having an effect upon them because I have a nephew who went for the first time last year that we've met no okay I don't know what nephew that was yeah one of them Jacob okay so you have met him yeah good he went and he loved it there was a lot of fun for him but in fairness I mean this kids not a bad kid at all like it's a really good kid this was used like he used it as a say oh man I really need to focus on some other things so for him he is 17 he's gonna go one more year and then he's gonna be heading off on his mission soon you know the whole thing was it was to help focus him a little bit better and it is definitely useful and good for him someone like me I really really don't think that it would ever be a user value Tibet was guys what about what you're 14 you know that was my point back then I would not I want to know I wanted to like kind of run through the week with Pete like really quick to say like okay is this a positive thing will this positively affect your life or negatively affect you like you get there yeah wristbands you you meet your roommate you kind of talk you're like oh yeah ac/dc I like ac/dc and then right right there would have been negative meeting someone new would have been paralyzing for me at that age now yeah I wouldn't have been able to handle that that's thing one that's what I wouldn't have been able okay right that's that's a rough thing but 19 would meeting people someone be a positive aspect in your life I would think it could be it's something that like would be a like a helpful thing maybe not yeah maybe not easy but you know helpful and then okay then you meet your counselor gather together and then you walk with your counselor and the other group of guys and then you meet the group of girls and and then you talk and then you eat dinner and I think there's a dance the first night usually are they shouting okay okay Tuesday you start your classes and you can pick several different types of classes which I love the glasses yeah the symposium type yeah totally symposium yeah exactly and you look through and you know if I don't by the way to see where you fit him in yeah yeah and you like plan out you know some of your friends you know maybe you talked to some of the girls the email and and Tuesday you have field day if I remember right so okay what is it's it's like sport you do like kind of like obstacle courses and relay races and stuff and it kind of moves like the group moves around to different events kind of thing so you do that for a couple hours so that's that's kind of fun but be between field day and dinner you're probably gonna want to get together with your group because you gotta think of a name for your group yeah okay that crippling number three creativity first the first year we did it we were the kingdoms like we had to pick a kingdom in our group I think we were actually assigned the first year but we were the dynamite Kingdom and we were just assigned anyway the next year we was like I thought you were gonna choose like one of the three degrees of glory what is it yeah no we're the T left so Kingdom ya know the next year I think we picked the olympian generation because we were generations the next year we were camps I think we were camper van Beethoven or something or can't buy me love can't buy me love in the next year I can't remember so you got to think of that you got to think of like some kind of cheer that's associated with your with your group okay the next day okay then you have your devotional you have to pick a cheer yeah okay for number four right there our theme was like Rito's honor so our cheer I remember it did something sometimes return with honor honor with return like we make back see how I did that backwards no no that's a Jewish form of literature what's that coming yes chiasmus that's a key oscillator example of God thank you all right fair enough fair enough Wednesday you go to class you you find the the Jon by the way or the the Wilcox what were some of the other ones whoever's been black maybe I don't ever know you know so those are good then you continue work on your cheer and then you eat dinner it's better for you this time Wednesday night Wednesday night dance there's the Wednesday night dance and then you have your devotionally do ok Thursday breakfast class whatever talent show it was about I love the talents they were putting much of kind of show thank you you don't have to necessarily have to do a talent but there's something like that a group of like what three buddies was completely volunteer like right and they have tryouts like on Tuesday afternoon or something it's like Joe played definitely on piano making having audience sing and stuff stuff like that everyone to do pretty good yeah usually pretty good I remember one year these two guys did a Pet Shop Boys song like with the synthesizer a guitar like one girl her talent was playing the piano but it was like an act where everything went wrong and the and the pages was flying a lot of people like acts like you surprised how many 50 year olds have an act the first time they heard who's on first yeah me too actually what yeah so two guys do shit up on your parents for not showing that to you sooner I didn't know who the Beatles were took college shame on your parents like I mean you should parents don't teach fees on first that's a cultural thing they don't teach it to me but they they had me watch it they forced you Thursday Thursday night was testimony meeting ah yes test it there was a final devotional and it was a big devotion with everybody and then after that it is your groups testimony meeting always people volved yeah yeah and so they were emotion Moniz is what your if you're saying that what the people were testify was not true then that's not the case they were know that here's my salad with a crown like today a testimony me people cried that is totally different it's different the the thing that I've always had trouble with with people crying is why are they crying is that how they feel the spirit I have been moved to tears from time to time but that's not how I feel the spirit often times when youngsters bear their testimony they think that crying is a part of it because that's what they see some of the adults do yeah you see some of that there but I've seen guys cry where you would never see the cry ever and they cried these things well I don't know if I fully understand so they like pluck hairs to make sure that they're no they work themselves into a state of emotion and it's not really the spirit that they're feeling they're feeling emotion they're feeling the the build up of everybody else you know saying the same thing and whatnot so um okay but I mean obviously emotion is a part of it I mean we can't take that away from people know you well why can't we okay okay we should not take that away from people because I think it's valid who's your favorite character on Star Trek my favorite but okay fine anyway testimony meetings great it is these are good I will testify the efy testimony meetings are good okay then Friday comes and the big banquet dinner yeah that night and you dress up which means a tie yeah an off-colored Church yes and of course the final dance yeah the dance like you know you take a piece like we did candy necklaces and you'd go pick a girl for me to groove to be your fake date yeah you down the dancer you know everybody you know and then like the girls will like get a big hunk candy bar and like make a necklace out of it yeah so like big hunk or whatever but when you get one from a girl yeah I just heard Rhett say he loves big hunks I don't think it's that weird sounding okay so anyway so that's that's efy that was the education of obviously definitely positive spirits in your little graph which I think we should redraw and put our line I think yes having going I was at a higher level than I was previously never referred to before especially after and that's that's a positive thing as much as I would never have enjoyed something like that you can see the positive effect that it can have on people so I that's good if you want me to talk a little bit about more but the nitty-gritty of you for one thing I do say is the counselors man they're funny and the selection the selection process for counselors you have ten these interviews that's big stressful thing I remember when a girl I knew was trying to be a counselor she was worried because she wasn't a returned missionary would they let her in and she's like studied how kids the processes you have to teach a lesson you know wow okay and blow a bus lis try it was that because they're doing the devotional each night yeah kind of they leave you know yeah and they just want to see levels of spirituality they want to see knowledge about the sea you know well that's good important because I mean if you if you're dealing with a high energy crowd you don't want to mix that up yeah something like none yeah gospel oriented self and so it was it really was a selective process until the season started we were desperate for Celts our subway my interview people to beat Kelso I was like oh yeah let me find put them in they asked me to be a counselor week I'm like no I like my sleep and they gave me a I was in charge of the health counselors which are like EMT trained they don't they don't have a group but they're involved with everybody you know they kind of float around in there they've got their tea bags just in case and they gave me the radio so I could listen at night this is what I was after I lived with Jon but I was it was when I was at a difference Liberty Square and the radio would reach campus so I turn it on at night unless the counselors talk to each other and they before with each other but of all the counters I knew and I knew probably thousands there was one counselor I remembered there's one counselor Aaron thought manner she lived in Utah with totally dated her name is Jamie Morgan know what a who does sound like the first person I knew was I saw was Jamie Morgan I started church that was like yeah never one Ella that we were just really friends whatever else but Jamie was a really good counselor she was really good you can see that because you know yeah but she would keep the kids involved but also spiritual but also knowledgeable enough it was really good but Jamie's a teacher by trade yes she's know much yeah she definitely just went Julie with this was back before this is she was in college so but it was a it was it was overall good I think I thought to say buddy afore I'm like okay I have I have an activity for us to do if we're done with the FY um okay yes okay okay I have compiled you mentioned what was the theme of your here we believe we believe yeah and okay what do you think about that what last thing okay our logo was leaves with we believe it was kind of supposed to be the the sacred grove and you know you know well the leaf logo the artists who did it he took it off of like a clipart site you know it was free was fine well that same leaf was in the is a Stone Temple Pilots logo and so it was obstinate hats of some Joe owns a hat with the same bleep and when we got all the t-shirts in and all the stuff one of the guys that work the houses because you're right do you recognize this leaf I'm like looks vaguely familiar and an STP element just come out and we're like he's like check the second brother see they all like oh no because they've already got all the paraphernalia printed up but it was it was like hilarious and I think we had two people the entire year like Charlie connection which is that's less than a half percent I mean you didn't get the connection okay okay so we believe no way you're look you're after look at live when I was there was returned with honor shoot think you know pretty well gonna do I've compiled a short list of efy themes and I've also compiled a list of movies I found on Christian movies doc will to the side and also I've compiled a list of Lifetime movies of the week okay so I'm gonna say something you tell me if it's a Lifetime movie of the week a Christian movie Kong movie or an efy theme okay I'm gonna turn my head so that I can't see you because based on where you look on the page may influence it was very good deduction okay here we go okay it must be love night see yes sing oh right and it said one of the members of afterglow and I started laughing I like had no idea that was it's funny because I was thinking about like - Oh mr. cool songs I looked up afterglow on Wikipedia doesn't Wikipedia doesn't know who afterglow is yeah but it explained afterglow it didn't really have the version of Jericho Road said there wasn't a boy band I seems like it was kind of a tease it I want to say um Jericho Road is of course I mean they were hot hit okay yeah after glows it was like the Barry Manilow go back okay keeping the faith yeah no no remember he's insulin home I wasn't there that year it was 87 brothers had the music and I heard the music when they when they came home yeah why is that old like 82 I was the first yeah the time has come to save their just pay our rent now to pay our share the time has come nope lifetime efy first year 1982 the time has come he'll mother use that bad go on I I think was pre that dances for years before yeah I'm gonna go courage to stand strong oh it feels like EFY but it's too long last one was come along okay go with the F Y if Y it's this year's theme 2010 Wow oh my courage to stand strong more of me left uh yes something to sing about Chris Buescher yes thank you so worried [Music] labor of love EFY no there's a movie we've seated it's actually a lifetime but it was never an e FY fan there was it yeah that's easy you build them Oh PS while we're talking about these themes I sat in the meeting where we discuss themes oh yeah pretty much you're supposed to come to me with ideas and brainstorm didn't get a vote that was it really so like you were in charge of wait what was your so no one's going home praying about this great about indeed but there was there was probably 10 or 15 of us in the meeting oh we can just throw out ideas and go through just can't cross him off that's cool yeah because I would have gone to his list of Lifetime movies it's total I I wish I could man at the time I was like you somebody's had to do I totally wish I would have gone in with like pops I was only there through August that I quit so like I didn't do looking live I didn't work out at all except decide the theme okay they're only like seven left okay okay walk with me I feel like EF wise movie it walk with me o ZF wine and that was actually the first year I went I believe walk with Mogador walk with okay deep in my heart like I'm Christian yes no regrets cruises movie lifetime lifetime played the odds they're something to talk about and yes the Bonnie Raitt song everybody got a tape of that tapes I didn't get CDs a song for the season today I see that one no that's your plaid tfy lifetime oh there's gotta be one that's like got season in it though I believe we already said a season for courage which was the okay yeah a home of our own lifetime the road to redemption Christian movie yes a long way home that's a Chris diversion I've seated lifetime for my movie now you're thinking of on the way home which I want to talk about possibly next week I want some ideas for next week medical comfort enjoy your lifetime lifetime safe harbor oh that is efy yeah from the eighties no don't confuse it with sailing home safe harbor is a lifetime original forever my friend Chris a movie question EF wine forever my friend 1989 forever , my friend forever love Christian movies so we can use this all its lifetime okay one more loving life maybe that was don't really prefer the efy turn loving life that was a that was probably a last minute so anyway okay so that was it that was a good game yes we can't first of all next week lesson Oh next week's lesson is I cannot go beyond the word of the Lord or beware lest I forget I'm thinking about skipping ahead because of the whole full free last week where are you wait you can say well the teacher shows up whatever these that's true that's true like like anybody's really gonna be oh you're gonna tell otherwise we're gonna be doing the story of Balaam and it's just a little one-sided and I just that's really all up there is so I'm considering moving ahead with anyway something I wanted to do we have a listener who I'm gonna call her Babs because she hates it anyway she's listened to our podcast she's really enjoyed it and she was wondering if maybe we could feature future lessons and maybe talk about him I don't know if we're necessarily gonna do that but I wanted to throw an idea out to her because she's also a sunday-school teacher and she was essentially looking for ideas to use in her class commentable she started like two or three weeks ahead of us anyway so in in Joshua one of the things Barbara that maybe you could use is in talking about in chapter 24 that's the you know as for me in my house I will serve the Lord I think it you could have a discussion in there with your people about what it means to maybe serve the Lord and choosing the Lord over other things and get into a discussion about you know why do we choose to do other things like why do we go and watch you know Friday the 13th what is it about us that makes us want to go and watch those things and how is that contrary to choosing the Lord anyway that's just an idea to maybe throw out there to you and anybody else who's listening may be speaking up by the way no one goes see the new Nightmare on Elm Street because I really didn't think it was that great hey oh speaking of Barbara actually Barbara in the future tell us your lesson that you're doing and and we'll like we'll look at the lesson and we'll make a comment as if we were in your class this is this would be the comment that we then I would make no just just off the top it might be lousy it could very easily be lousy you know but you know you get lousy comments maybe you can work with it so yeah that's true yeah okay so yeah good to be hearing from you soon as far as next week goes for should we give the email address out there I couldn't find it on the blog the other day I put it on the blog recently okay I couldn't find it it should be on the blog now but go to the blog now the blog by the way is Iron Rodcast blog spot.com the email is just as easy if not easier to remember probably easier to remember it's just Iron Rodcast at gmail.com no the no the anywhere in there so just Iron Rodcast if you just search Iron Rodcast we're pretty much the only iron so you can find our information pretty easily as far as next week goes it's my turn to pick the topic again I'm thinking of picking let's talk about our favorite and least favorite Mormon movies both made by the church Oh made by people like not officially part of the church so we have we'll have one of each oh maybe three of each how about this your favorite movie made by the church or least favorite movie made by the church your favorite movie you know made by church members your least favorite movie made by church members and of course your favorite anti-mormon movie and your least favorite anti throw what everyone okay well anti-mormon or not made by not me by the church so like September dawn would be a good example the the movie about the mountain met with double ask her yes with Jon Porter which I hear is hilarious okay good and if you're hearing this if you've stayed with us this entire time you just heard the email address go send in your movies anything and I have a good story for those of you who listen this long so today a second we we had just was it was totally quiet and our Angela was sitting two people down for me she sneezed her says bless you Peter says the best part of it is his testimony meaning it was in like a two minute long yeah anything right now I felt bad because Angela got if you know anything about her you know she's white yeah she was you saw that I was laughing right I was like a few rows ahead a Dre was bite your arm at sis you would laugh that's all anyway okay till next week buying us [Music]

you know I'm starting to think down along those lines so I I'm glad that you brought up that top okay state conference helped me out theory and you were looking for a topic to talk about we can talk about 72-hour kits one of these days okay like what do you put in a 72-hour kit that's a topic okay yeah I suppose so yeah that could be a topic that you want me that I need to brainstorm your 72-hour kit it's true it's true okay anyway is all goes on here's here's actually interesting stats that she said identify ways to measure progress but how would you measure testimony and she said probably the best way is to look toward goals and and she kind of said a few things I didn't write them all down but some of them I thought was current profound like I know I'm getting better when Church isn't a burden I know I'm getting better when I don't buy drink or eat something just to get through the day and she said a few things kind of like that that I thought were pretty fascinating pretty good stuff I know I'm getting better when I don't I used to compulsively buy when you know I was depressed and but I'm obviously getting better because I'm broke now oh and then she goes I know I'm getting better when stuff isn't as tempting as it was and then she's like I'll let you put in whatever you want for stuff and then she see and then she goes Christ invites us to be perfected in him because he's not setting us up for failure we are closer than we think kind of going on to what President Dunn said and the differences in the details find something you can do better and mess so pal it was a really good talk yeah it's about Rojas maybe I should ask her out anyway um then-president badger spoke and it was it was very his was very brief and also at this point I was fading what now was he brief because all of the other people went long I'm not sure I didn't really I was in a position where I couldn't look at the clock and I didn't bother to pull out my phone to check what time it was okay um I was in a plush seat so I didn't really feel a need to look at the clock another benefit of going to priesthood session you get a really really good seat yeah actually it's kind of funny I didn't get a good seat for priesthood session well what was really all Scott up when everybody else got up I moved in nice yeah so it was pretty sweet and he said let's see president had her change in heart and able to forgive others and to be forgiven and I and he went into a lot of detail about about the nature of Christ and president Smith opened with a few jokes of course that's one thing I truly miss out on it was the fact I don't get to hear president Smith oh yeah that man knows how to do he knows how to reach his audience he absolutely does yeah oh yeah gosh president's not he'd good he said brethren you need to get married because somebody needs to set you straight and there he says something to be effective the in graces there's only you and not I involved and so love one another so those those just some obviously went into better detail than that but that's all I had room to write uh I'm glad to see he did better than that yeah yeah he did that he's pretty good it's just in and keep in mind my my hand hurts I can't even write very well that's true that's true president Dunn said don't something about distraction and be willing to do what it takes to same kind of thing it's right there it's so close and you use the example of Donner Hill over an emigration Canyon about how when the Donner Party came through they they went they went the wrong way they diverged from the path because they thought it would be easier but it was actually much harder and that set them up for failure later when when the Pioneers came through he didn't really elaborate on this but I thought it was kind of profound the mouth of emigration Canyon kind of comes to a point and they were able to go right through the right point that was easiest and they arrived in the valley everything was fine except everything wasn't trying for everybody but you know right generally long story short everything was fun long story short everything was fine there ten million of us now but I thought it was very interesting the way he said the mouth of the canyon forms into a fine point and it kind of got me thinking you know in a spiritual journey you have at the beginning of the journey you have that big wide area that big Canyon to go through and and so there are so many ways that you can kind of progress toward your goal there's so many things that you can do and then toward the end it comes into that fine point and it's more difficult for you it's harder to see the path when you're closer to the end of the journey and I thought that was pretty fascinating yeah that's actually a really really cool point I'm just going to draw something here so that you can see the way that the commandments work is that it gets you you know when you first start out along the path of you know once you realize okay I need to be able to you know I understand that I have a need for Savior and and I understand that the commandments are important you end up you know going back and forth along this path that's very very wide knit it funnels you down more and one more till you get to a path it almost feels like you're you really don't have much wiggle room at all but as you come out of that it opens up wide wide wide because at that point you don't need the commandments anyway because the Lord is going to trust you to stay on that path all the way through but as we first begin and we have to have all of those Commandments to help Corral us in to get us to a point where we're thinking okay this is an appropriate way just like the the canyon funnels them down into you know point them into the right way to go down through you know that the commandments and the keep wanting to say laws but the I guess the heavenly laws that that exists are there for a purpose to get us to a point where we stay on the straight and narrow path regardless of having to have that Canyon funnel us down in there right it's funny that kind of concept of of not having any restrictions yet being the person popped into my head a little bit today and I can't remember why I don't maybe it wasn't even today but it was I think someone in conference referenced like born-again Christianity and held like one of the things they always say especially to us is it doesn't really matter what you do as long as you accept Christ and you proclaim him as your Savior right you know in you know knee jerk you know we kind of think that's pretty naive right but at the same time if it doesn't really matter what you do yet he's born there isn't a rash of born-again Christian crime occurring you know anywhere it there is something to be said about that like okay I proclaimed you know the love of my Savior and you know his atonement in His grace and and so you know there is no need to do anything wrong it just it is kind of a natural occurrence of legitimately accepting your Savior I'm sure that's not the case with everybody sure lots of people say they say and I think that's more of the thing if you if you do something in violation of what the saver would have you do in a way I think that's more a communication that you're not expecting him anymore yes I think that's a valid point so anyway so that was state conference it was a pretty good no pancakes this morning now but that's fine pancakes yesterday I since I came late I decided to have some of the burned one so that some people wouldn't have those they were okay they were okay but you are truly Christian sir yeah well I do what I can I do I can I try you know a lot of people don't know this but I really try to be a sort of good person anyway um it was good to teach you for once usually you're teaching me so yeah no I appreciate the I even though I know it sounds weird that idea about a 72-hour kit that's that actually kind of hit home a little bit okay you know after an unintended and not much of a pun really I don't say what's hilarious instead it with the pun and I intended to make it okay okay fair enough do you have anything else to talk about did I have I have something to talk about a few we could we can do I don't have anything I know of my responsibility to apparently get a guest and to to bring the topic I never said you had to get a guest I just said you need to deposit whoever is in charge of getting the topic is in charge of it if you think yes and then and then after I said that I'm like you don't have to get against them like if you want again you're the okay okay let me aswell record this rule what I said was if you're in charge of the topic you're also in charge of whoever else that means I can't get a guest on your topic week oh okay so so you can either choose to have a guest or not but you're in charge of whoever else if anybody right gotcha okay so anyway your topic this week is I don't know maybe I don't now I kind of do okay um so after State Conference I a few people wanted to see Bishop and so I had to do my calling after conference and a few people were going in because they wanted to go through the temple and so they wanted to take temple prep classes right what do you think a temple prep classes are they kind of at the point really I've only done one uh-huh and that was before I went to the temple myself and I remember thinking well looking back on it now I understand the purpose behind them but I don't know that it really did that much for me yeah you know in fairness I know that sounds arrogant and it frankly rather is I've always felt like I've been a little ahead of the curve on some areas of my religion so when it came to the temple like it was no problem for me whatsoever didn't have any questions as a matter of fact when I received my endowment I remember my brother-in-law coming up to me and saying okay now Jackie questions are you confused about anything like what in the heck is there it'd be so confused about I completely get it I make covenants with the Lord I don't understand everything behind it but I get that I made covenants with the Lord here you know and so I it I remember being with a bunch of other people in the class and thinking I anyone really getting anything out of this because I wasn't learning anything new that I hadn't been it was more of a refresher and more of I guess I focused her kind of a class well yeah well but I understand for other people who don't who didn't grow up in a situation where I did where my dad was a bishop for 14 years and I faked presidency for seven years you know who didn't have this you know extreme structure of Church you know backbone if you will I'm it's probably very very helpful and very necessary for some people to prepare them for what goes on in temple okay yes and I think it's very important to prepare what goes on in temple but what I don't get what I don't get is the temple prep class usually consists of this is what a covenant is and and then they might read out of Abraham or something like that or you know out of Moses and that's kind of it but they don't actually do any preparation they just kind of say okay here's a little bit of vocabulary but um and I kind of want to I almost want to ask any listeners who may have not gone into the temple I mean I almost kind of want to ask them what do you think of what you know about the law of consecration and I'm wondering if one thing they'll say is all the law of consecration that's something the church tried out a while back and it didn't really work because you know obviously it's not going to work because you know we all kind of want our own stuff right and and and and seriously that's kind of I think what the church in general thinks about stuff like that because and this is what I don't understand and this this topic is something that I kind of feel strongly about that I kind of want to preface here maybe and I want to revisit on another podcast perhaps but I don't understand why we don't talk about the things that go on in the temple specifically the covenants I went to the temple and one thing I was very surprised about is everybody kind of before I let you this they're like okay this is something that you talk about on the temple and so I don't want to talk about it here we talk about the temple and so you know I don't want to you know I'm not sure if we should talk about it is the one thing that was very clear to me is this is the stuff you don't talk about and it was very specific things you don't talk about that other things such as the covenants we make those aren't necessarily something things we don't want to talk about those are our lives that's what we should be talking about all the time so that's what we should be that's our religion that's what we should live and so I really think and I think this is true with endowed members of the church too they also think of the law of consecration is something we did a long time ago that has no meaning for us today right cons they use the excuse it's something in the temple it's something secret it's something we don't want to talk about okay I agree completely with your what I'm gonna classify as I ran there I I have nothing to say against anything that you just said right now okay fair enough and I want to that's all I have to say right now but I think I want to revisit that because I think that's just something that I've never been able to comprehend maybe if I can make a comment here consecration is really it's it's one of the reasons why we were not supposed to turn down a calling and we get if I could you know I'm going to apply it you know really wells because we are supposed to dedicate our time our talent or all of our energies to the building up of the Lord's kingdom here on earth which is the church that is the responsibility the culminating aspect of the covenants that we make within the temple is the fact that we will consecrate our entire lives over to him and say okay Lord I will do exactly what you asked of me to do if you're asking me to be the Sunday school teacher then I will be the Sunday school teacher if you're asking me to be the activities chairperson I would be the activities chairperson even though that would be a calling that may require me to leave the church because that would be a horrible calling for me right you and I have pretty love with coins yes I think so and that's one reason why I'm really reluctant to go to a family war because they're their dozen callings there that would that would destroy me I know what you mean well ii-i'd brother Matson we need you to be the Scoutmaster yeah are you kidding exactly so I consecration is not something that is that you should be taking lightly and sort of like oh yeah one day we'll practice that again right no you ought to be preparing yourself to the point that you can practice cotton you can you know actually live consecration tomorrow right and that's how I feel about the law of polygamy as well I could live polygamy tomorrow I don't think you can I don't think I can considering the fact of our age and we still have yet to marry one woman I don't think we can handle it I'm just saying I'm working on it I'm working on tons of women tons of them so that would be another interesting topic by the way yeah baby maybe okay well anyway anything else you have to saying this has been pretty good huh yeah yeah yeah I think that I would whole hesitant to even bother to sit down to do this because well I was an act State Conference and well if you weren't gonna do it I was going to sit down and be my temple man so well I'm glad that I was here that you know you could share with me some some stuff for the state conference okay at myself as your home teacher you have taught me today and it was good oh yeah your home teacher that's right your home teaching me all the time Oh actually by the way before we close maybe we should say thank you for the comments that have been coming in oh yeah we've gotten on a very very nice comment you know thank you Janie Craig Maria Stephanie yeah and I thought I talked to her yesterday morning she said she's like I've been listening it's so good it's great oh yeah thank you so much Stephanie hey and if you guys have suggestions for other ideas yeah for us to talk about or maybe you think we're doing something dumb I think we'd be willing to you know hear some criticism oh yeah yeah yeah if there's something we're doing wrong and we can just we'll just cut that thing and yeah MLB eh also I finally heard back from iTunes and we're not iTunes hey all right and so yeah if you do a search for rod cast in iTunes then you can hit the subscribe button and then you don't have to worry about going back and visiting the blog if you have to leave comment except that Lee comments yes although you can leave comments on iTunes which would be really great oh yeah that's true um but yeah so if you subscribe in iTunes then it just downloads automatically you don't have to it'll just go right in and you can probably if you sync up your iPod to sync up podcast then it'll go right to your iPod when you charge it on your computer row if that's how it works I don't know my iPod broke but I've been thinking about you in the knife pods how do you really yeah get a nano that's what I'm gonna get well I've got an mp3 player that I got from Joey like he was like dude I never used this thing do you want it and so I took it and I've used it a few times I just don't use it that often no so even if I were to get an iPod I think it would just sit around does it have an athletic little strap thing you can put on your arm that's what doesn't know you might you could tape it like when you play softer you could be listening to like the Iron Rodcast and it that would be illegal oh yeah you can have like that necklaces and or rings and watches and stuff like that in a soccer game that's a no-no what if you like taped it to your back and just put ear plugs in like the risk of injury to yourself and to others is still great enough that they they just don't allow it you know because even though it's unlikely someone could get themselves wrapped up in it and either hurt them you know hurt a finger or rip them out of my ears and caused some sort of damage 18 hilarious though I mean let's be honest okay fine well whatever anyway go to iTunes I would have I meant to write down the link to iTunes but usually it's like 50 characters long yeah I think we can just say go search for rod cast again you should find it I'll do it next week anyway I'm Jon we'll see you later and I'm Peter have a good week [Music]

you know I'm starting to think down along those lines so I I'm glad that you brought up that top okay state conference helped me out theory and you were looking for a topic to talk about we can talk about 72-hour kits one of these days okay like what do you put in a 72-hour kit that's a topic okay yeah I suppose so yeah that could be a topic that you want me that I need to brainstorm your 72-hour kit it's true it's true okay anyway is all goes on here's here's actually interesting stats that she said identify ways to measure progress but how would you measure testimony and she said probably the best way is to look toward goals and and she kind of said a few things I didn't write them all down but some of them I thought was current profound like I know I'm getting better when Church isn't a burden I know I'm getting better when I don't buy drink or eat something just to get through the day and she said a few things kind of like that that I thought were pretty fascinating pretty good stuff I know I'm getting better when I don't I used to compulsively buy when you know I was depressed and but I'm obviously getting better because I'm broke now oh and then she goes I know I'm getting better when stuff isn't as tempting as it was and then she's like I'll let you put in whatever you want for stuff and then she see and then she goes Christ invites us to be perfected in him because he's not setting us up for failure we are closer than we think kind of going on to what President Dunn said and the differences in the details find something you can do better and mess so pal it was a really good talk yeah it's about Rojas maybe I should ask her out anyway um then-president badger spoke and it was it was very his was very brief and also at this point I was fading what now was he brief because all of the other people went long I'm not sure I didn't really I was in a position where I couldn't look at the clock and I didn't bother to pull out my phone to check what time it was okay um I was in a plush seat so I didn't really feel a need to look at the clock another benefit of going to priesthood session you get a really really good seat yeah actually it's kind of funny I didn't get a good seat for priesthood session well what was really all Scott up when everybody else got up I moved in nice yeah so it was pretty sweet and he said let's see president had her change in heart and able to forgive others and to be forgiven and I and he went into a lot of detail about about the nature of Christ and president Smith opened with a few jokes of course that's one thing I truly miss out on it was the fact I don't get to hear president Smith oh yeah that man knows how to do he knows how to reach his audience he absolutely does yeah oh yeah gosh president's not he'd good he said brethren you need to get married because somebody needs to set you straight and there he says something to be effective the in graces there's only you and not I involved and so love one another so those those just some obviously went into better detail than that but that's all I had room to write uh I'm glad to see he did better than that yeah yeah he did that he's pretty good it's just in and keep in mind my my hand hurts I can't even write very well that's true that's true president Dunn said don't something about distraction and be willing to do what it takes to same kind of thing it's right there it's so close and you use the example of Donner Hill over an emigration Canyon about how when the Donner Party came through they they went they went the wrong way they diverged from the path because they thought it would be easier but it was actually much harder and that set them up for failure later when when the Pioneers came through he didn't really elaborate on this but I thought it was kind of profound the mouth of emigration Canyon kind of comes to a point and they were able to go right through the right point that was easiest and they arrived in the valley everything was fine except everything wasn't trying for everybody but you know right generally long story short everything was fun long story short everything was fine there ten million of us now but I thought it was very interesting the way he said the mouth of the canyon forms into a fine point and it kind of got me thinking you know in a spiritual journey you have at the beginning of the journey you have that big wide area that big Canyon to go through and and so there are so many ways that you can kind of progress toward your goal there's so many things that you can do and then toward the end it comes into that fine point and it's more difficult for you it's harder to see the path when you're closer to the end of the journey and I thought that was pretty fascinating yeah that's actually a really really cool point I'm just going to draw something here so that you can see the way that the commandments work is that it gets you you know when you first start out along the path of you know once you realize okay I need to be able to you know I understand that I have a need for Savior and and I understand that the commandments are important you end up you know going back and forth along this path that's very very wide knit it funnels you down more and one more till you get to a path it almost feels like you're you really don't have much wiggle room at all but as you come out of that it opens up wide wide wide because at that point you don't need the commandments anyway because the Lord is going to trust you to stay on that path all the way through but as we first begin and we have to have all of those Commandments to help Corral us in to get us to a point where we're thinking okay this is an appropriate way just like the the canyon funnels them down into you know point them into the right way to go down through you know that the commandments and the keep wanting to say laws but the I guess the heavenly laws that that exists are there for a purpose to get us to a point where we stay on the straight and narrow path regardless of having to have that Canyon funnel us down in there right it's funny that kind of concept of of not having any restrictions yet being the person popped into my head a little bit today and I can't remember why I don't maybe it wasn't even today but it was I think someone in conference referenced like born-again Christianity and held like one of the things they always say especially to us is it doesn't really matter what you do as long as you accept Christ and you proclaim him as your Savior right you know in you know knee jerk you know we kind of think that's pretty naive right but at the same time if it doesn't really matter what you do yet he's born there isn't a rash of born-again Christian crime occurring you know anywhere it there is something to be said about that like okay I proclaimed you know the love of my Savior and you know his atonement in His grace and and so you know there is no need to do anything wrong it just it is kind of a natural occurrence of legitimately accepting your Savior I'm sure that's not the case with everybody sure lots of people say they say and I think that's more of the thing if you if you do something in violation of what the saver would have you do in a way I think that's more a communication that you're not expecting him anymore yes I think that's a valid point so anyway so that was state conference it was a pretty good no pancakes this morning now but that's fine pancakes yesterday I since I came late I decided to have some of the burned one so that some people wouldn't have those they were okay they were okay but you are truly Christian sir yeah well I do what I can I do I can I try you know a lot of people don't know this but I really try to be a sort of good person anyway um it was good to teach you for once usually you're teaching me so yeah no I appreciate the I even though I know it sounds weird that idea about a 72-hour kit that's that actually kind of hit home a little bit okay you know after an unintended and not much of a pun really I don't say what's hilarious instead it with the pun and I intended to make it okay okay fair enough do you have anything else to talk about did I have I have something to talk about a few we could we can do I don't have anything I know of my responsibility to apparently get a guest and to to bring the topic I never said you had to get a guest I just said you need to deposit whoever is in charge of getting the topic is in charge of it if you think yes and then and then after I said that I'm like you don't have to get against them like if you want again you're the okay okay let me aswell record this rule what I said was if you're in charge of the topic you're also in charge of whoever else that means I can't get a guest on your topic week oh okay so so you can either choose to have a guest or not but you're in charge of whoever else if anybody right gotcha okay so anyway your topic this week is I don't know maybe I don't now I kind of do okay um so after State Conference I a few people wanted to see Bishop and so I had to do my calling after conference and a few people were going in because they wanted to go through the temple and so they wanted to take temple prep classes right what do you think a temple prep classes are they kind of at the point really I've only done one uh-huh and that was before I went to the temple myself and I remember thinking well looking back on it now I understand the purpose behind them but I don't know that it really did that much for me yeah you know in fairness I know that sounds arrogant and it frankly rather is I've always felt like I've been a little ahead of the curve on some areas of my religion so when it came to the temple like it was no problem for me whatsoever didn't have any questions as a matter of fact when I received my endowment I remember my brother-in-law coming up to me and saying okay now Jackie questions are you confused about anything like what in the heck is there it'd be so confused about I completely get it I make covenants with the Lord I don't understand everything behind it but I get that I made covenants with the Lord here you know and so I it I remember being with a bunch of other people in the class and thinking I anyone really getting anything out of this because I wasn't learning anything new that I hadn't been it was more of a refresher and more of I guess I focused her kind of a class well yeah well but I understand for other people who don't who didn't grow up in a situation where I did where my dad was a bishop for 14 years and I faked presidency for seven years you know who didn't have this you know extreme structure of Church you know backbone if you will I'm it's probably very very helpful and very necessary for some people to prepare them for what goes on in temple okay yes and I think it's very important to prepare what goes on in temple but what I don't get what I don't get is the temple prep class usually consists of this is what a covenant is and and then they might read out of Abraham or something like that or you know out of Moses and that's kind of it but they don't actually do any preparation they just kind of say okay here's a little bit of vocabulary but um and I kind of want to I almost want to ask any listeners who may have not gone into the temple I mean I almost kind of want to ask them what do you think of what you know about the law of consecration and I'm wondering if one thing they'll say is all the law of consecration that's something the church tried out a while back and it didn't really work because you know obviously it's not going to work because you know we all kind of want our own stuff right and and and and seriously that's kind of I think what the church in general thinks about stuff like that because and this is what I don't understand and this this topic is something that I kind of feel strongly about that I kind of want to preface here maybe and I want to revisit on another podcast perhaps but I don't understand why we don't talk about the things that go on in the temple specifically the covenants I went to the temple and one thing I was very surprised about is everybody kind of before I let you this they're like okay this is something that you talk about on the temple and so I don't want to talk about it here we talk about the temple and so you know I don't want to you know I'm not sure if we should talk about it is the one thing that was very clear to me is this is the stuff you don't talk about and it was very specific things you don't talk about that other things such as the covenants we make those aren't necessarily something things we don't want to talk about those are our lives that's what we should be talking about all the time so that's what we should be that's our religion that's what we should live and so I really think and I think this is true with endowed members of the church too they also think of the law of consecration is something we did a long time ago that has no meaning for us today right cons they use the excuse it's something in the temple it's something secret it's something we don't want to talk about okay I agree completely with your what I'm gonna classify as I ran there I I have nothing to say against anything that you just said right now okay fair enough and I want to that's all I have to say right now but I think I want to revisit that because I think that's just something that I've never been able to comprehend maybe if I can make a comment here consecration is really it's it's one of the reasons why we were not supposed to turn down a calling and we get if I could you know I'm going to apply it you know really wells because we are supposed to dedicate our time our talent or all of our energies to the building up of the Lord's kingdom here on earth which is the church that is the responsibility the culminating aspect of the covenants that we make within the temple is the fact that we will consecrate our entire lives over to him and say okay Lord I will do exactly what you asked of me to do if you're asking me to be the Sunday school teacher then I will be the Sunday school teacher if you're asking me to be the activities chairperson I would be the activities chairperson even though that would be a calling that may require me to leave the church because that would be a horrible calling for me right you and I have pretty love with coins yes I think so and that's one reason why I'm really reluctant to go to a family war because they're their dozen callings there that would that would destroy me I know what you mean well ii-i'd brother Matson we need you to be the Scoutmaster yeah are you kidding exactly so I consecration is not something that is that you should be taking lightly and sort of like oh yeah one day we'll practice that again right no you ought to be preparing yourself to the point that you can practice cotton you can you know actually live consecration tomorrow right and that's how I feel about the law of polygamy as well I could live polygamy tomorrow I don't think you can I don't think I can considering the fact of our age and we still have yet to marry one woman I don't think we can handle it I'm just saying I'm working on it I'm working on tons of women tons of them so that would be another interesting topic by the way yeah baby maybe okay well anyway anything else you have to saying this has been pretty good huh yeah yeah yeah I think that I would whole hesitant to even bother to sit down to do this because well I was an act State Conference and well if you weren't gonna do it I was going to sit down and be my temple man so well I'm glad that I was here that you know you could share with me some some stuff for the state conference okay at myself as your home teacher you have taught me today and it was good oh yeah your home teacher that's right your home teaching me all the time Oh actually by the way before we close maybe we should say thank you for the comments that have been coming in oh yeah we've gotten on a very very nice comment you know thank you Janie Craig Maria Stephanie yeah and I thought I talked to her yesterday morning she said she's like I've been listening it's so good it's great oh yeah thank you so much Stephanie hey and if you guys have suggestions for other ideas yeah for us to talk about or maybe you think we're doing something dumb I think we'd be willing to you know hear some criticism oh yeah yeah yeah if there's something we're doing wrong and we can just we'll just cut that thing and yeah MLB eh also I finally heard back from iTunes and we're not iTunes hey all right and so yeah if you do a search for rod cast in iTunes then you can hit the subscribe button and then you don't have to worry about going back and visiting the blog if you have to leave comment except that Lee comments yes although you can leave comments on iTunes which would be really great oh yeah that's true um but yeah so if you subscribe in iTunes then it just downloads automatically you don't have to it'll just go right in and you can probably if you sync up your iPod to sync up podcast then it'll go right to your iPod when you charge it on your computer row if that's how it works I don't know my iPod broke but I've been thinking about you in the knife pods how do you really yeah get a nano that's what I'm gonna get well I've got an mp3 player that I got from Joey like he was like dude I never used this thing do you want it and so I took it and I've used it a few times I just don't use it that often no so even if I were to get an iPod I think it would just sit around does it have an athletic little strap thing you can put on your arm that's what doesn't know you might you could tape it like when you play softer you could be listening to like the Iron Rodcast and it that would be illegal oh yeah you can have like that necklaces and or rings and watches and stuff like that in a soccer game that's a no-no what if you like taped it to your back and just put ear plugs in like the risk of injury to yourself and to others is still great enough that they they just don't allow it you know because even though it's unlikely someone could get themselves wrapped up in it and either hurt them you know hurt a finger or rip them out of my ears and caused some sort of damage 18 hilarious though I mean let's be honest okay fine well whatever anyway go to iTunes I would have I meant to write down the link to iTunes but usually it's like 50 characters long yeah I think we can just say go search for rod cast again you should find it I'll do it next week anyway I'm Jon we'll see you later and I'm Peter have a good week [Music]

hello welcome to the Iron Rodcast podcast number three I am Jon and I am Peter hello hey Peter how's it goin not bad Jon how are you doing today pretty good pretty good today it was see actually how should I put this let me let me put it this way I was just reading a blog just now I was it's a religious blog kind of like a religious podcast in fact it's called my religious blog and the entry said a thousand years of man's time is equal to one day of God's time I learned that by reading Abraham 3 for 1 hour of State Conference times equal to 15 hours of actual time I learned that my is deftly going to state conference once this weekend was state conference so we don't have a Sunday School lesson to go over yeah but we do have some state conference and P what you think a state conference I think state conference is a wonderful idea and I think everyone should go to their state conference right now having said that I had didn't actually go to say conference which is I feel bad when I don't go because I used to you know I had a calling in mistake at at one point for you know like a year and a half and I know what goes into planning and preparing and putting on a state conference like I've seen you dealt with some flower people so I I feel bad when I don't go to them because sort of like you know I just couldn't you know I know I'm saying I think all of your planning and preparation is useless mm-hmm I feel bad because I actually really enjoy when I get to hear the state presence you speak and this is one of the few times where they're going to be the starring role if that makes sense so I like to take conferences it was just that I'm not used to owning a house and I'll use this as my excuse um you know I had a soccer game yesterday first of the season and on top I had to come home and then prepare or like do all of my lawn stuff and turns out my lawns a little bit bigger than I've really given it credit for like it took me I think over an hour to mow it and so it just it took way way more out of me than than what I anticipated and so I slept in today well I loved it fair enough yesterday you have better excuse because your soccer game was after all two and a half hours after the Saturday morning State Conference I'm not quite right when it started at 9:00 grass and I went for what two hours it went for an hour for an hour okay see I actually am bugged about that because for me the morning time and the like on a Saturday to hold state conference in the Saturday session in the morning is annoying I prefer in the evening time I get why they do it with us with a student Ward because you know you know we're supposed to be dating on a Saturday evening yeah you know so I can sort of understand that I just think it's poor planning I would be more likely to show up - Ueda infection it's poor planning for you well yeah I know I mean I I would think you're in the very minority and a stake as far as it comes but like what am i more likely to get about the 9 a.m. Saturday session or the 6 p.m. Saturday set let's be fair how many you know students are actually getting up what and let them read they give it up at like 8 8 o'clock to get ready to show up for a 9:00 a.m. what's the likelihood of that well I I guess you'd have no idea when that opportunity you did go so how many people were there it was um chapel filled and probably a quarter of the chairs in the cultural hall okay so like the only first war basically um yeah yeah we're probably later on I didn't I didn't walk up and down the aisles I don't have that calling not count for people who I think we probably estimate around 400 because that's what we used to get with the the old forty first probably wasn't that much okay but it was more than well not more than I expected like expecting my alarm on Saturday went off at nine uh-huh I didn't get out of bed until about ten after nine I came down and it like I talked to you before you left I was late I was really in fact and I felt really bad because and this is okay so Friday night this is right here you're their incredible excuse that you're not going to stay confidence did you have a sock you're not going to stay confidence at 9:00 a.m. because you have a soccer game at 11:30 a.m. which I thought okay I guess if you can get that two words sure I are nothing between maybe it's a time zone thing I don't know well it also didn't hurt that I got home at 2:00 a.m. for my podcast you got home at 2:00 a.m. yeah and I don't know if you recall when I went to bed but I don't know I was about at about 3:30 or 4:00 because I was working on something for a friend of mine that I thought had to be done immediately right but it turns out I have some extra time but yeah I went to bed at 4:00 I'm like okay well we'll see how this goes I slept through my alarm but I but I was late for the the morning session of state conference yesterday and I was there I was able to get there just in time to hear president Dunn's remarks so I missed the other stuff apparently they showed a video because they do that in ours mate they are our state president likes showing videos a lot well sort of what he does for a living so it it's easy for him probably yeah it's kind of like hmm what's the opposite of priestcraft what cuz cause like it seems prosperous priesthood uh you know you well yeah I know what kind of it's a weird kind of opposite because you know in priestcraft you try to like make money money from your religion right in this case he makes religion from what he makes money off of so I get I guess there's nothing wrong with that at all I think that uh in fact that's actually something I wanted to talk about maybe later if we talk about it this time but I think that's good because I think it kind of shows consecration in a way you do what you do for a living for the benefit of the church right and that's what he did and I missed it I missed the video apparently it has a lot of that I think the gist of the video is I should have looked it up on YouTube cause he said he was going to put it on YouTube they they had images of of kids in our state oh yeah yeah I warm room together like they morph into each other and at the end it kind of morph into an image of Christ and and then in his remarks he said something to defect justice I drove all the way to the building just to get this remark and the priest Han cake breakfast that uh that a lot of times we think the gulf between us and christ is much larger than it actually is and his home his big message that morning is it's not as big as we think it is we don't have to give up it it's right there and you know we can take if we want and so that's kind of just that one statement is pretty much all I got from Saturday morning conference because I was late because I slept through my alarm and then I came home and I slept for four hours and then last night I played video games again and until 4:00 in the morning and but because I took my four-hour nap yesterday I think I was able to totally get to state conference today and then took another four hours yeah you crash for a while I'm pretty spit conference really messed me up this weekend but I am glad that I went actually because today it's a conference it was actually pretty good I don't know you can make it to the priesthood session as well I made it to the priesthood session that is impressive because that's an 8 a.m. session 8 a.m. session and they go up to 9 or 9:30 okay now you are complaining about the Saturday morning thing which you think is valid it's actually invalid but this is a valid complaint we're gonna disagree often with the priesthood went from 8 to 9 uh-huh and then the normal one started his pen right so I almost was like give me another half hour priesthood what's going on here exactly yes I actually told this to them when I was serving on a mistake because they were like I what are you guys thinking like honestly I would have liked to have had another half an hour of a priesthood session before for this because then we ended it you know you have to sit around for another hour yeah I get that logistically what they're trying to accomplish is you know getting everyone to arrive within a half-hour time period - and then get them all seated and you know reverent ready to go is next to impossible but it's still frustrating for me because I like those priesthood sessions I've been to well everyone except for this one I think in our sake for the most part so I wish that they would give us more a little bit more what what a great opportunity to speak to to those people well you mean is well I think I think on the basis of logistically speaking you may as well do it anyway because what the girls start trickling in at about like 15 after and then it's just I mean then it's just a big huge giant chatter room for 45 minutes you may as well shorten that period correct we call that socializing and so chattering love sex sex I don't think doesn't sound sexist we're all chattering yes where you go inventions are the whimpers ship walk around 9:15 and then it becomes the chatter for thought okay that is true I'm not saying women are more chatty they are but that's not exactly what I'm saying what I'm saying is when men and women come into a room together they're more chatting okay okay so it's like if it was like if there was a Relief Society session early in the morning not the bouncer we're gonna happen and then the men started coming in then same thing and so then the men would have been labeled watch out okay okay we just have to be in there first so anyway uh yeah so anyway that's pretty good um you miss you miss Scott Scott folks yeah I knew that he was going to be doing would was he in the priests obsession or the the general study was in the general session oh nice what was their topic on his topic was whatever he wanted did he make it his usual topic that he talked about in like regular sacrament meeting because I could have talked before he's like you know I always end up given like basically the same talk every single time has he said that yeah I don't think so because he used this opportunity to kind of drop the bombshell of a little bit of his past about his that would have been moving based upon the theme that we heard from the morning session on Saturday right yes exactly and that's kind of where he took it he was our good friend Scottsdale most people listening right now both of you totally know one person uh he's he's this really great guy he's been in our ward for but you know he's been in as long as I have it's gotta be at least five years yeah at least five years so yeah he's been in there for a long time he's my home teaching companion he's all our elders quorum president I didn't I didn't know him really well until like a couple years ago but turns out he has a very interesting past he used to have a daughter and through very various circumstances his daughter was was taken away I wasn't taken away I think he gave her up for adoption if I remember his blog post to the posted like yeah I'm trying to I should have refreshed myself on on his his blog post up it's weird because it's something he came out with it you know through writing and it's something we never really talked about it's just something to kind of know like you know there's that there's that past there but you know the the mother is not really part of his life anymore daughter isn't really part of life anymore his parents got divorced a short time before that it was very very dark period in his life yeah and and he he just kind of figured that's where he was that's where he belongs s ultimately where he would go and he didn't really see the gospel we didn't see the atonement he didn't really see Christ in his life but you know he came around and you know he mentioned a you know just a couple things he read a lot of scriptures strangely Joseph Smith history verse 28 I wrote that down and just kind of mantra marks that the relief he had that Joseph Smith had problems between the first vision and the translation of the Book of Mormon right which you know something we kind of it's one of those weird things we talk a little bit more about lately like oh yeah Joseph Smith he wasn't perfect obviously he wasn't man but he wasn't perfect he he had problems but he became the prophet of this dispensation 1st Corinthians 10:13 that's you will not be tempted above that which you are able I'm trusting Scott on these scriptures because I am NOT a scripture mastery day doctor in Covenants 1 12 12 after much tribulation that's when you will receive conversion something to that effect that's how I how I rolled my notes down and then he goes on great scriptures like that and he lists four things first half hope second become converted any talks a lot about conversion as in it's not step one not converted step two converted big huge difference it's it's a process than any remarks you know Peter when Christ mentions to Peter after Peter is the apostle at the main apostle you know when you aren't converted and so emphasizing the the process of that and then three know that God is there which I kind of relate to number one help and number four just keep your eye on the prize which I thought enduring so anyway very good very good talk by Scott and then the other two people who spoke were also very interesting and I thought this was a really good state conference because you know it's almost like especially in singles wards you have the state presidency speaks of course and then but the first hour you have like a series of youth speakers and it's usually people like who is this Relief Society president yeah why do I care about listening to her yeah but it wasn't the case found some some really good ones the sites got a couple of young women in the stake one of them with a very interesting name that I camera well maybe I shouldn't even say her name because you know how I don't know how public as far as this podcast is very new like I don't even know if I should have just be talking about these people that I think just matter to you're fine anyway you're gonna regret saying when I try to say this name Archana Tobiah mister by Archana anyway uh recent convert two weeks ago as baptized and they later speak in a cow is they call my goodness yeah but of course weapon president Dunn was kind of like yeah be careful you know you know you know what you're getting into and you get baptized you might have to speak in state conference two weeks later uh but she apparently she had been investigating the church for a couple of years and she she went through a series of missionaries but very similar to Scott I don't know how they picked these speakers but I think they probably knew okay she she said you know two years ago she felt incredibly alone and she and she prayed you know as hard as she ever has and she actually grew up in awe and so obviously she was familiar with the church but she didn't really go into detail on how she felt and how her family was because one of the things she talked about was you know the unconditional love that exists within family is a powerful force and she says one thing that kind of got got into her life is I hope I'm saying this right you know it's funny when you take notes on something like this it becomes Chinese whispers so people can correct me on this but she she kind of had this responsibility to love and it was a good thing despite the fact that she she said almost in passing how disappointed her family was in her for the decisions she was making at this time now which i think is really um you know it's really weird I think for you and I because the only way we can disappoint our families is it's a relief first and I I can eyes I kind of thought you know how interesting that is also that kind of makes me think a little bit about like my own testimony my own conversion someone said it this way to me one time when I was in school and this was just kind of just it wasn't even a religious conversation but they mentioned that if their parents left the church it wouldn't affect them mmm I see you know and they formed their own testimony that one day remaining on their parents anymore right right and I kind of thought about that I thought oh yeah I'm like okay yeah I you know that would be horrible if my mother left the church I I feel absolutely horrible but I feel absolutely horrible for her it wouldn't really affect the way I live my life and so kind of an interest thing about I and this maybe harkens back to podcast number one about honoring your parents she found a way to make that work she she didn't have the need to full-on rebel against her parents but she knew what was right and she did it and she still was able to maintain the love for her family so I thought that's interesting also you know brings to mind help me out here I have the scripture in the New Testament thanks for narrowing it down to the libous danger yeah about you know whoso will not leave their mother and father for my sake oh sure sure right yeah I know I know I believe it in Matthew it sounds Matthew sound like something you'd say is it Sermon on the Mount kind of stuff I know I believe it's later color sells Christians we so give us up houses and family and mother and brother for my name's sake shall receive an hundredfold I believe okay so I'm somewhere in those lines very good anyway so her tapas was great it was great next person he spoke was it's about Rojas I think I said that right yeah I can appreciate the first one you have in trouble with come on really I'm only quarter Mexican so yeah Jay is all a bit just as a bell or Isabella Isabel there's Bell Rojas yes okay and she can I gave the speech relating to about preparation she related it to her 72-hour kit list that she wanted to put together and go every six months she decided like when confit rolled around she'd evaluate what she had on her 72-hour kit list of stuff you know putting together okay and so you know practical you know reason and also it was kind of a metaphoric thing that you know it rolled around she had worked on it because she lost her lips and she didn't know what to do and then so she she the six-month came along she's like oh let's see what's in here and her list was actually he her sexuality hmm well that's a great few place to keep the list yeah yeah and so um but I mean it it was really about um you know preparation and she said let's see what I write down see one look look to who you want to be more like what you want in your what you want on your list how-how-how something something did it get back okay so yeah I'm really good at this fortunately in state conference in the program they give you space to write but it doesn't really work well with the way I write obviously actually you know what that's a kind of an interesting point I think you know I've got a house now mmm-hmm and I have I buy stores of food that I know I use so I like I buy them in bulk I wouldn't necessarily call that food storage or you know some sort of 72-hour kit I just have okay you can see over there I've got 24 cans of kidney beans that's weird I know you know and so I've got a few things like that I would have gone up Intel okay duly noted um but it's I think it may be time for me to start up a 72-hour kit here as well I think I thought I had I thought that's what all the no that's just for like it was cheap and it's young I know I'm gonna eat that stuff so I can buy it in bulk like well how hard is it for you to start a 72-hour can all you have to do is take a piece of masking tape and write on one of your food shelves 72 hours okay fair point but I think there's something more that needs to go into a 72-hour kit besides you know cans of beans I don't know I just think that it's time I start putting some thought into okay stuff like I've started holding on to my juice containers you know and I get done with those I'm gonna you know rinse them out and get them all cleaned out and ready to actually store some water we don't have a recycle bin in this house and you can't put them in there it's not for recycling it's for water storage okay so I you know I'm starting to think down along those lines so I I'm glad that you brought up that top okay state conference helped me out theory and you were looking for a topic to talk about we can talk about 72-hour kits one of these days okay like what do you

hello welcome to the Iron Rodcast podcast number three I am Jon and I am Peter hello hey Peter how's it goin not bad Jon how are you doing today pretty good pretty good today it was see actually how should I put this let me let me put it this way I was just reading a blog just now I was it's a religious blog kind of like a religious podcast in fact it's called my religious blog and the entry said a thousand years of man's time is equal to one day of God's time I learned that by reading Abraham 3 for 1 hour of State Conference times equal to 15 hours of actual time I learned that my is deftly going to state conference once this weekend was state conference so we don't have a Sunday School lesson to go over yeah but we do have some state conference and P what you think a state conference I think state conference is a wonderful idea and I think everyone should go to their state conference right now having said that I had didn't actually go to say conference which is I feel bad when I don't go because I used to you know I had a calling in mistake at at one point for you know like a year and a half and I know what goes into planning and preparing and putting on a state conference like I've seen you dealt with some flower people so I I feel bad when I don't go to them because sort of like you know I just couldn't you know I know I'm saying I think all of your planning and preparation is useless mm-hmm I feel bad because I actually really enjoy when I get to hear the state presence you speak and this is one of the few times where they're going to be the starring role if that makes sense so I like to take conferences it was just that I'm not used to owning a house and I'll use this as my excuse um you know I had a soccer game yesterday first of the season and on top I had to come home and then prepare or like do all of my lawn stuff and turns out my lawns a little bit bigger than I've really given it credit for like it took me I think over an hour to mow it and so it just it took way way more out of me than than what I anticipated and so I slept in today well I loved it fair enough yesterday you have better excuse because your soccer game was after all two and a half hours after the Saturday morning State Conference I'm not quite right when it started at 9:00 grass and I went for what two hours it went for an hour for an hour okay see I actually am bugged about that because for me the morning time and the like on a Saturday to hold state conference in the Saturday session in the morning is annoying I prefer in the evening time I get why they do it with us with a student Ward because you know you know we're supposed to be dating on a Saturday evening yeah you know so I can sort of understand that I just think it's poor planning I would be more likely to show up - Ueda infection it's poor planning for you well yeah I know I mean I I would think you're in the very minority and a stake as far as it comes but like what am i more likely to get about the 9 a.m. Saturday session or the 6 p.m. Saturday set let's be fair how many you know students are actually getting up what and let them read they give it up at like 8 8 o'clock to get ready to show up for a 9:00 a.m. what's the likelihood of that well I I guess you'd have no idea when that opportunity you did go so how many people were there it was um chapel filled and probably a quarter of the chairs in the cultural hall okay so like the only first war basically um yeah yeah we're probably later on I didn't I didn't walk up and down the aisles I don't have that calling not count for people who I think we probably estimate around 400 because that's what we used to get with the the old forty first probably wasn't that much okay but it was more than well not more than I expected like expecting my alarm on Saturday went off at nine uh-huh I didn't get out of bed until about ten after nine I came down and it like I talked to you before you left I was late I was really in fact and I felt really bad because and this is okay so Friday night this is right here you're their incredible excuse that you're not going to stay confidence did you have a sock you're not going to stay confidence at 9:00 a.m. because you have a soccer game at 11:30 a.m. which I thought okay I guess if you can get that two words sure I are nothing between maybe it's a time zone thing I don't know well it also didn't hurt that I got home at 2:00 a.m. for my podcast you got home at 2:00 a.m. yeah and I don't know if you recall when I went to bed but I don't know I was about at about 3:30 or 4:00 because I was working on something for a friend of mine that I thought had to be done immediately right but it turns out I have some extra time but yeah I went to bed at 4:00 I'm like okay well we'll see how this goes I slept through my alarm but I but I was late for the the morning session of state conference yesterday and I was there I was able to get there just in time to hear president Dunn's remarks so I missed the other stuff apparently they showed a video because they do that in ours mate they are our state president likes showing videos a lot well sort of what he does for a living so it it's easy for him probably yeah it's kind of like hmm what's the opposite of priestcraft what cuz cause like it seems prosperous priesthood uh you know you well yeah I know what kind of it's a weird kind of opposite because you know in priestcraft you try to like make money money from your religion right in this case he makes religion from what he makes money off of so I get I guess there's nothing wrong with that at all I think that uh in fact that's actually something I wanted to talk about maybe later if we talk about it this time but I think that's good because I think it kind of shows consecration in a way you do what you do for a living for the benefit of the church right and that's what he did and I missed it I missed the video apparently it has a lot of that I think the gist of the video is I should have looked it up on YouTube cause he said he was going to put it on YouTube they they had images of of kids in our state oh yeah yeah I warm room together like they morph into each other and at the end it kind of morph into an image of Christ and and then in his remarks he said something to defect justice I drove all the way to the building just to get this remark and the priest Han cake breakfast that uh that a lot of times we think the gulf between us and christ is much larger than it actually is and his home his big message that morning is it's not as big as we think it is we don't have to give up it it's right there and you know we can take if we want and so that's kind of just that one statement is pretty much all I got from Saturday morning conference because I was late because I slept through my alarm and then I came home and I slept for four hours and then last night I played video games again and until 4:00 in the morning and but because I took my four-hour nap yesterday I think I was able to totally get to state conference today and then took another four hours yeah you crash for a while I'm pretty spit conference really messed me up this weekend but I am glad that I went actually because today it's a conference it was actually pretty good I don't know you can make it to the priesthood session as well I made it to the priesthood session that is impressive because that's an 8 a.m. session 8 a.m. session and they go up to 9 or 9:30 okay now you are complaining about the Saturday morning thing which you think is valid it's actually invalid but this is a valid complaint we're gonna disagree often with the priesthood went from 8 to 9 uh-huh and then the normal one started his pen right so I almost was like give me another half hour priesthood what's going on here exactly yes I actually told this to them when I was serving on a mistake because they were like I what are you guys thinking like honestly I would have liked to have had another half an hour of a priesthood session before for this because then we ended it you know you have to sit around for another hour yeah I get that logistically what they're trying to accomplish is you know getting everyone to arrive within a half-hour time period - and then get them all seated and you know reverent ready to go is next to impossible but it's still frustrating for me because I like those priesthood sessions I've been to well everyone except for this one I think in our sake for the most part so I wish that they would give us more a little bit more what what a great opportunity to speak to to those people well you mean is well I think I think on the basis of logistically speaking you may as well do it anyway because what the girls start trickling in at about like 15 after and then it's just I mean then it's just a big huge giant chatter room for 45 minutes you may as well shorten that period correct we call that socializing and so chattering love sex sex I don't think doesn't sound sexist we're all chattering yes where you go inventions are the whimpers ship walk around 9:15 and then it becomes the chatter for thought okay that is true I'm not saying women are more chatty they are but that's not exactly what I'm saying what I'm saying is when men and women come into a room together they're more chatting okay okay so it's like if it was like if there was a Relief Society session early in the morning not the bouncer we're gonna happen and then the men started coming in then same thing and so then the men would have been labeled watch out okay okay we just have to be in there first so anyway uh yeah so anyway that's pretty good um you miss you miss Scott Scott folks yeah I knew that he was going to be doing would was he in the priests obsession or the the general study was in the general session oh nice what was their topic on his topic was whatever he wanted did he make it his usual topic that he talked about in like regular sacrament meeting because I could have talked before he's like you know I always end up given like basically the same talk every single time has he said that yeah I don't think so because he used this opportunity to kind of drop the bombshell of a little bit of his past about his that would have been moving based upon the theme that we heard from the morning session on Saturday right yes exactly and that's kind of where he took it he was our good friend Scottsdale most people listening right now both of you totally know one person uh he's he's this really great guy he's been in our ward for but you know he's been in as long as I have it's gotta be at least five years yeah at least five years so yeah he's been in there for a long time he's my home teaching companion he's all our elders quorum president I didn't I didn't know him really well until like a couple years ago but turns out he has a very interesting past he used to have a daughter and through very various circumstances his daughter was was taken away I wasn't taken away I think he gave her up for adoption if I remember his blog post to the posted like yeah I'm trying to I should have refreshed myself on on his his blog post up it's weird because it's something he came out with it you know through writing and it's something we never really talked about it's just something to kind of know like you know there's that there's that past there but you know the the mother is not really part of his life anymore daughter isn't really part of life anymore his parents got divorced a short time before that it was very very dark period in his life yeah and and he he just kind of figured that's where he was that's where he belongs s ultimately where he would go and he didn't really see the gospel we didn't see the atonement he didn't really see Christ in his life but you know he came around and you know he mentioned a you know just a couple things he read a lot of scriptures strangely Joseph Smith history verse 28 I wrote that down and just kind of mantra marks that the relief he had that Joseph Smith had problems between the first vision and the translation of the Book of Mormon right which you know something we kind of it's one of those weird things we talk a little bit more about lately like oh yeah Joseph Smith he wasn't perfect obviously he wasn't man but he wasn't perfect he he had problems but he became the prophet of this dispensation 1st Corinthians 10:13 that's you will not be tempted above that which you are able I'm trusting Scott on these scriptures because I am NOT a scripture mastery day doctor in Covenants 1 12 12 after much tribulation that's when you will receive conversion something to that effect that's how I how I rolled my notes down and then he goes on great scriptures like that and he lists four things first half hope second become converted any talks a lot about conversion as in it's not step one not converted step two converted big huge difference it's it's a process than any remarks you know Peter when Christ mentions to Peter after Peter is the apostle at the main apostle you know when you aren't converted and so emphasizing the the process of that and then three know that God is there which I kind of relate to number one help and number four just keep your eye on the prize which I thought enduring so anyway very good very good talk by Scott and then the other two people who spoke were also very interesting and I thought this was a really good state conference because you know it's almost like especially in singles wards you have the state presidency speaks of course and then but the first hour you have like a series of youth speakers and it's usually people like who is this Relief Society president yeah why do I care about listening to her yeah but it wasn't the case found some some really good ones the sites got a couple of young women in the stake one of them with a very interesting name that I camera well maybe I shouldn't even say her name because you know how I don't know how public as far as this podcast is very new like I don't even know if I should have just be talking about these people that I think just matter to you're fine anyway you're gonna regret saying when I try to say this name Archana Tobiah mister by Archana anyway uh recent convert two weeks ago as baptized and they later speak in a cow is they call my goodness yeah but of course weapon president Dunn was kind of like yeah be careful you know you know you know what you're getting into and you get baptized you might have to speak in state conference two weeks later uh but she apparently she had been investigating the church for a couple of years and she she went through a series of missionaries but very similar to Scott I don't know how they picked these speakers but I think they probably knew okay she she said you know two years ago she felt incredibly alone and she and she prayed you know as hard as she ever has and she actually grew up in awe and so obviously she was familiar with the church but she didn't really go into detail on how she felt and how her family was because one of the things she talked about was you know the unconditional love that exists within family is a powerful force and she says one thing that kind of got got into her life is I hope I'm saying this right you know it's funny when you take notes on something like this it becomes Chinese whispers so people can correct me on this but she she kind of had this responsibility to love and it was a good thing despite the fact that she she said almost in passing how disappointed her family was in her for the decisions she was making at this time now which i think is really um you know it's really weird I think for you and I because the only way we can disappoint our families is it's a relief first and I I can eyes I kind of thought you know how interesting that is also that kind of makes me think a little bit about like my own testimony my own conversion someone said it this way to me one time when I was in school and this was just kind of just it wasn't even a religious conversation but they mentioned that if six months she decided like when confit rolled around she'd evaluate what she had on her 72-hour kit list of stuff you know putting together okay and so you know practical you know reason and also it let's see what's in here and her list was actually he her sexuality hmm well that's a great few place to keep the list yeah yeah and so um but I mean it it was really about um you know preparation and um maybe I should refine that meaning because I don't really that I do waste my time goofing off sure but there are some things I consider this goofing off this is goofing off and you know it's a good positive things that you really don't know the words who you should get to define this absolute right right and so um you know this is a great podcast I actually I have three other podcasts that I do and I have nine or ten other blogs that I do and maybe I should just focus on maybe two blogs a week in one pot I don't know and and I think I can turn those into a positive rather than negative like like I have my my comic strip that I always wanted to work on that I'm behind in that yeah I love you though my Christmas present to my family that I haven't gotten them yet it's April yeah I don't know it's I gave my my mom's birthday was in April I gave her her Christmas present for her birthday yeah because and you guys know what my Christmas present was absolutely Photoshop deal that they did for all my friends but I haven't done it for my family and you know several other blogs a little podcast which unfortunately aren't super popular but you know people do listen to like two people in the world listen to them and I feel bad when I let those two people down but you know I gotta focus on my goods enough what can I say okay and you don't want to make yourself better at all right no I'm good okay that's what actually I have been and it wasn't from today's lesson but it was interesting because lately I have been focusing on getting stuff done like I have all these ideas I have all these different things floating around there and I mean getting stuff done I took the GMAT because I want to get it done so it taken me five years but I finally know what I'm getting it done um I have this you know a business idea right now you know I'm like you know what I'm doing it I don't know how I'm doing it but I'm doing and you know last night I sat down programmed one of the pages I just did it's ugly it's fine I'll change it later but at least it started so yeah that's all alright when you finish back and you please get half level six of the original Legend of Zelda it's impossible it is impossible egg laying all right yeah okay anyway um let's move on yeah what's next week for Sunday school by the way uh it's state conference next week oh that's right okay so take your elbows next no leader but you guys want to do something great we might still be stay or we go so so I don't maybe okay fine okay well we have a little bit of time left right I have to go pretty soon but so a quick second topic geography of the book moron so we hi landed someone somewhere on this North or South America and the action of the the Book of Mormon has you know take place you know somewhere around here we don't know exactly where three models okay and a-one of course is landed South America there's a narrow neck of land which is middle America and the Nephites were in North America the lane lines during the South America the gold plates eventually wound up of course in North America in New York second model everything is just much smaller than that everything happens around like Panama somewhere and that's right where the narrow neck of land is north of the Panama Canal pretty much is the land of bountiful land Zarahemla where the the Jered i'ts jerry lights were which you know and and then south of that is where the Lamanites were anybody know what the third model is I'm not entirely certain I I don't know that I would necessarily agree with the whole Panama thing because I still see that as just well it's the same thing as the big one except it's in a probably tighter knit area yeah one of the other theories I've heard is actually that it was up further from the shoot what it way I want to say that it's miss of Tehuantepec or something it was like further north of the Panama so not necessarily right in Central America Yucatan er yeah yeah okay so just stop in Mexico okay right the UK I guess I did Central America isn't it sorry I don't kind of Dayton someone is saying is that the one that said like the Yucatan comes up in the West sea is actually the Gulf of Mexico we would consider the EC but it's on the west of that Peninsula and so that's why we I'm not remembering my geography that Wikipedia version I'm looking right now yeah there is a really interesting it's too bad we can't be gathered by the compute I guess we can be gathered by the computer because I have a couple of pages up you know with some of this Baylor oh sorry go ahead to the third one the third one which means I guess we should say the fourth one is actually in the Great Lakes area oh yes which um remember yeah I like it is like the Great Lakes and like the Finger Lakes area of New York that was considered where you know the land of many waters were for example and the archaeological evidence behind that you know because there's a little bit of archaeological evidence for this for example in in the second one you know the Panama area you have the the Mayan civilization is kind of similar to the Nephites and they have the temples and stuff and then before them was the Olmec civilization which stays like that corresponds very well to Jared right so you know there you go in in the Great Lakes area they they found similarities with I think some one group mound builders yeah I've heard about them they're like Native American Mound others but you know kind of have similar things to me finds but and of course the Hill Cumorah is right there if if the action did take place in Central America somewhere Moreau and I didn't have to walk across the entire continent to go upstate New York he was already there which that sounds right so um anyway what do you guys think where do you think I would have to take it to the Central America there is the one that I want to learn yeah it was really because structurally you see all of the things that are there it's clear that there were ancient societies there it's roughly around the same general time period and it's clear that there is some sort of historical correlation in certain the way he's that you collected so I would I would put it there I certainly would say that first and the last one to like North and South America are the land northward and align southward I would throw that right out just because of the fact that you have people who are traveling from the land southward up to the land northward in a matter of a couple of days yeah yeah physically there's just no way possible for that to happen yeah and the one at the end where you say that the Great Lakes area I would have to say no to that because I don't know of any narrow neck of land that could be utilized as a okay this is the narrow neck of land yeah I think here's the the two seas on either side well it's between the two Great Lakes perhaps yeah I just can't buy that because all it takes is a guy you know who walks around them you know in two days and says oh these are like they're it's not a see there's stuff on the other side I think it'd take a lot more than two days to walk around agree well here's the thing though the reason I can't get into the Great Lakes thing is I can't figure out where Lehigh or the mule archives because of Atlantis but I put me in the middle of the concert that's my deal and you know I pledge we're gonna have to revisit this because you know I I just kind of glanced at this the people who espouse these have all the reasons that I didn't look at it I just kind of wanted to either Vidal farms has a huge research on yeah um here's my experience with I never even thought about it I didn't care so I got to the mission I was like yeah they're landing and we don't anything here we don't need to tell we don't really again this is all just were talking out our yeah um when I get to Chile I was indoctrinated in the local missionary custom of knowing that they told me they straight up I my companion Missouri like yeah this really landed I'm like what I mean this really like it was up at Vimy old Omar I'm like if I land in Chile like yeah I'm like well how do you know it's like oh there's been numerous apostles who said this I'm like really and I there were stories in one of them I did here from a very reputable I said the elder machi Frederick or something no elder Irene no no no Elroy was our Holland I can't remember but they said like he was obedient he was being able to SiC present their authorities that said I have a strong feeling this is wearing if I'd landed and I actually had a mission conference where the area president said nephew H Elena which is me by was Chilean he said that like you like Oh case is the history of the things but in fairness as you've mentioned many times Chileans have a way older claiming well the very present was from Otto oh okay okay sorry um but I had other issues with him we could talk about another day but that I listen things talk about when know when we should question our leaders what's wrong question I think that's a fun one because he was an area president and I had huge issues with him right up to the moment where he drowned Thank You Frankie we're actually going to mention that good which I heard Fisher say it was that God that he died it I was like I would like that'll be a whole that's definitely mad good money makes that but you can some really good this the one the one thing about the Nephites possibly happened in Chile that countryside was built for what happened to performance there's these little Hills that come out in the middle of nowhere we played out as Michigan's Imperial high commence despot it felt like you're in the Book of Mormon and we would hike around these things it was like it was just a random Hill like it'd be flat you know Chile's kind of built like the Wasatch Front mountains in the east you know kind of Peters out to the west and it's just narrow strip everything it's north and south but it there's this random hill they'll be 500 feet high and around on top and like I'm like you can't oh I have battles on these hills like you felt like it sure and the fruits there you know it is a bountiful land if you want to sell me I know about for whatever but it's very you know there's rivers and lakes and everything you could have a big society or toy goody especially the daddy's mountains being there that's the one thing that I was kind of like well wouldn't we have more mentions of huge huge mountains it look look informative I mean through the Andes is not a trick it's one of the interesting things is the fact that we never ever and why another reason why I don't like the Great Lakes region is we never want to hear anything about cold weather or snow yeah an actual Chile it doesn't ever snow it doesn't know as you can see it yeah but you can go I mean so if you had farther north I could definitely see you okay that's why I feel like it was more the system along the equator well my parents went on a trip to the Yucatan politia and the the glocal guys to Rio probably so from from Utah goes you Mormon like yeah goes so do you want the Mormon version of the story we gathered LDS and he was like showed up like yeah like yeah they thought a table here to add it said and it came to pass on it I made sure my I don't know we need farms to get in on this but that's all my take on this so far okay well I'm just gonna save the second one the Panama you know just because I mean that just a narrow neck landed okay um my question but you guys with a lot on the west side of the cognate ELISA I'd always thought the west side I didn't I get to Chile I realized that they were stay in the west side and I'm like really so yes he left it with past Australia yeah across the Pacific past Easter Island past you know one ended up didn't matter he has to go around the paper it was a bit has a real shot for going east from the bottom of yeah they definitely thought about that um but it wouldn't I mean that's a long straight that's huge so I mean I mean just because you have to go around Africa doesn't mean it's last who were Union where does the Jared Iceland west side also well I don't think we have any sort of like from the from the book itself I don't think they gave us any directions they were in a dish but the trouble is we don't know where they necessarily started off from the Jared ice yes and we lock it we talk about how they they were around the time of the Tower of Babel this is but we ooh I think historically we would think that happened somewhere in Babylon around the Fertile Crescent it you know up in that general area but was it I mean I could seriously see them have traveled down to the Mediterranean coast across that way for the jarred ice and being able to you know they headed west it would have been a much straighter shot for them to go that way but in fairness they don't exactly have maps of the entire world so they can't say oh oh yeah oh this would be a boat sir well it's got away with advocating they were that's true then that's sure oval things like an au ties a good shot yeah they who knows really yeah the only thing we do know is a road I buried place is he'll tomorrow I was all right all right just Great Lakes that settled it whether he was alive or deceased after the fact is a note of contention and did he bury them as a resurrected being or did he bury them as for someone who had traveled all that way up there you haven't oh he could have done it that that's a week before Joseph Smith Ghanim that's the two Hill Cumorah theory that that's often brought up and said look you know it doesn't why does it have to be where the you know Hill Cumorah where the final battle took place is the same Hill Cumorah which by the way I believe was Oliver Cowdery who named it the Hill Cumorah where he got the place from why though we don't have to be the same thing it could have been you know from the last battle to when Merle and I finally buried the place so like he got resurrected it's and then um like Christ says to him you're way off with where you buried those things why I need you to keep going here yeah I don't know it seems unlikely but it's one of the things that people of elevation the bottom leg is really better no really it will the here's know not only does it not matter I mean yes it doesn't matter I don't think that should preclude us from talking about it because I love talking about um but I think God is going to have several different solutions here he's not going to he's not going to point us in one direction there is never going to be a single place and there will never be archaeological evidence that proves the book and more incorrect just like I don't think there's ever going to be archaeological evidence that disproves because the whole point of the coming forth of the book of mourners that we have to have faith and we have to ask Heavenly Father if it's true and we can't have like the physical representatives get to crotch on and so I think it's very interesting that there are all of these solutions there are are all of these theories and they all are so compelling in their own ways so one but there isn't going to be one there's like lost like we'll never know actually like we'll find out your legs six weeks by five we might good will cry the next five or six weeks like how show ends we I'm looking I'm certain up we will have it's not going to be tied up completely well again some questions and not every question that each person has is going to get answers well even major ones that would be who get answered so well also keep bear in mind that the Second Coming will probably happen before the very end of laws and so we'll never really know um I have one thought though the toy of subject that came from that we have our logical evidence that the Bible exists right people get hair strangled off the Book of Mormon what about but there are problems there are there are archaeological problems with the Bible especially with certain things our Bible you yeah um no I'm talking about if you're given the Book of Mormon Katherine I thought illogical I think the Bible has more problems it's a lot but I'm thinking hey could I mean well there are things like like the the Exodus that's a big problem um what I mean the Exodus well there's no evidence of a group of people from that time you know doesn't say the Egyptians don't necessarily have any sort of okay what history about that which you know what quite honestly well that's not surprising they just the Egyptians are very selective about what they've chose to put into history and they they have rewritten their history so many times with each new Pharaoh that comes along right um I'm going to talk about tests are going to test well when Christ died there were the crazy things that happened there was the you know the earthquake in the and the the darkness for three hours right that's only scriptural accounted for i I think I believe we would look cute and yes yes I said archaeological that's why we're talking about us well I was also thinking more I'm compendium wise I mean we know the order of the Bible is just because it's blank except for Revelation in the New Testament right only who so who wrote the book of John was it John I believe it was my means okay I mean I not not every book in the Bible what did you read it there are guesses we don't know that I'm saying yeah I think I'm like 90 you know so much flak for the book of war was like look survival like it's it's a book on faith take what you want out of it the hope it's clear that any sort of meaningful testimony should be built upon the spirit and not you know what evidence one can gain through physical means because numerous apostles and gospel teachers have said that's not going to be a testimony folds up if it's based off of historical evidence it's never going to hold up or bear you through the trials that will come in your life if you have a testimony that's centered upon Christ and the spirit then you are going to be able that that's a testimony that's going to be a value and worth okay nevertheless I do want to yeah you've got this topic I'll okay blondie yeah I enjoy it okay um by the way one more thing about geography we do have reference in the Book of Mormon of smell and that is in Lehigh's dream where they compare the fruit to the whiteness of driven snow all of the newest know was so they know it's know what those intrusive easy it snows in Jerusalem no no in generally Oh hastily can I say Anna was yeah this is that one we go first Nephi 11 8 the whiteness of the tree exceeds whiteness of driven snow we use as coating I mean yeah I mean he could've but in Isaiah Neil and I mean Israel was close to snow-capped mountains in Lebanon to the north but I think I think they were familiar with snow they didn't mention they also didn't mention hot weather although the Lamanites did run around and they run around pretty much naked it says so it must've been summer during the battles wherever they were hordes of central Berg it would have been Central America or could have been the Great Lakes region was very humid and you're gonna want to take some I'm not going to wear that heavy hot armor but it's it's not hot but really I guess it is in the summer I'm sorry Pennsylvania absolutely gets very very humid I had a brother-in-law who who served there and he it was creeks said it was crazy crazy hot I think Great Lakes I think Michigan yeah so do I Michigan but a constant I guess if you would talk to Lester greatly anyways okay yes okay random question and I asked Pete about this a couple weeks to go maybe I talk to you about this but okay let's think of a big characteristics of the LDS Church seen from the outside like what are some like some of the major things that people think of when you leave in Mormons okay polygamy no word of wisdom type stuff yeah drink a notice yet not me that's a pretty big one um the three I'm kind of going for that I think a very unique - and those are big polygamy is a big one very big one another one is some of years ago is not gonna master okay okay yeah well go on um blacks in the priesthood is a big one oh of course of course um answers it's not as much anymore but it was it yeah it was totally the other one is um forgot whole thing the same Oh three degrees of glory really I would ask what we've been going for I think I think those are some big you know like we'll take you or you know kind of kind of doctrinal aspects of a total of Mormonism okay godlike aspirations yeah um but mostly mostly three degrees of glory uh and as long as we're talking about the Book of Mormon I just wanted to ask you this well third no no it's look at me watching the priesthood of Jerry's glory hood which I that counts for three so that's five things polygamy which probably could be more than one thing the size of the priesthood so let's so Kingdom terrestrial Kingdom celestial so if I think to go uh okay don't don't you find it interesting this is kind of a what's up with that that I can't really figure out the Book of Mormon kind of addresses all three of these things the Book of Mormon addresses polygamy in Jacob three right this and what is addressed is don't do it The Book of Mormon addresses the afterlife quite often but pretty much without fail the after is composed of a hell and a heaven and no mention of three degrees of glory is mentioned in The Book of Mormon and the Book of Mormon and this is kind of mild but the Book of Mormon does mention when when it says you know the weight of Christ is open to all both white black and white bond and free that that passage from second define 26 and so it's this is my question what's up with that it's the Book of Mormon and the big things the really big things about Mormonism are covered in the Book of Mormon but they seem to say the opposite of what the doctrine actually that came about from double come on oh no because the doctorate Covenants is where we did all of the revelations all these doctrine mm-hmm and so if you want to live in the religion of the Book of Mormon year 1600 years too late but if you want to live in our religion it's the dr. Kevin's not the Book of Mormon okay so you've seen if you're paying the doctor income this is a bit more important in the Book of Mormon I had a class whole time with a professor of July you said if you could always use one book which would you take and the Old Testament is a dead religion the New Testament the Living Dead religion book more with the dead religion it looks like the New Testaments of zombie religion I did say those I've ever taken is like that our guide to religion is the dr. covenant interesting that's where we get them all and if we have revelations today where do they get put that you put in the doctor comes they can I mean well I think we see the prohibition of family get out of it as a sex I wanted some sort of opinion or something but I um as far as your question exactly I think it's got to talk about the degrees I'm gonna have to research this but I think it's somewhere in Alma doesn't talk about the degrees a little bit I know it talks about the Mark of Cain and the Nephites because the convergence becoming wider and I mean yeah yeah which it never really goes to over too well because you know you know that that kind of an emphasis that's kind of a kind of an emphasis on the separation which I'm not super comfortable with this is what a signature ulis before I want to look the way out yeah you snuck a third topic I know I know well like you're making your own room I told you this like a month ago yeah well then you get macaroni why don't know there's a clear there's no clear question you're saying what's up with that that's a clear question what up with that well well then I'm going to give you my answer that's just the way that it is yeah if you want to get specific I I could probably do some stuff but I I'm just not sure isolated well I just it's almost like I don't have this is not okay I don't want to say this is like this big crazy serious question I have issues with it's just a weird thing I think it's just a weird thing that I think is kind of interesting something that I've noticed just kind of Oh huh what do you know because in the Bible you actually do have thorough marriage kind of a normal thing when you go talk over though it does talk about the I don't know perl marriage is ever a normal thing of all the ones that the Jacob scripture for you says not to do it unless commanded together do someone's commanded okay I mean you can't assume that but three degrees of glory is a New Testament concept that's it no it's doctored covenants concept the New Testament first as far as publishing goes and and yeah so I think it's kind of because those are it it's these are some of the things that people don't like the moments for and there's more evidence for that the stuff they don't like us for in the Bible then our own Book of Mormon okay so I I just think it's fascinating but it's because we live the doctor covenants good yeah yeah okay so anyway I have one more thing I wanted to do we don't have to do it we'll do it later we can do it later I wanted to do it maybe I'll do it with Pete you better be a preview well it's just a game I wanted to play a game with this game that we used to play in on our missions where the Mormon Gulf it's I don't know what it's called where you open up the Book of Mormon and you start reading GART read and you see how many verses you can get through before someone else you gotta find it yeah and and you know so we could we could do this every week in like house and we can have a leaderboard if he's doing it the best okay okay okay we start that up maybe another time yeah we go anywhere mean what weeks kind of like oh I'm gonna tell you oh it's in your car yeah what I didn't think you bring about your scriptures in Jan when you're I still do oh I was gonna plug there's I'll put this on the list okay the things I want to talk about disagree my red but not at all just going to be filled with things that we should talk about one song a little custom oh good this one all your ideas have been really good this is LDS like I bought the scriptures from iPhone you can get a free version it's out there but the verse I bought was $15 which is the iTunes Store it's none of you aware is unheard of no one's self stuff for that much from the iTunes I mean there's there's apps that are there's a couple medical ones ago for hundreds of dollars but for the standard layperson 50 bucks is like what I want to talk about that next week okay okay good Lori's executives I'm not done fair enough okay we'll talk about that next week we're going to be talking about state conference next week that and it would have been our fitting to - for the discussion this week that's good yeah I'm sorry yeah I don't want to talk a little bit all right gotta go okay fine go anyway goodbye we'll see you

um maybe I should refine that meaning because I don't really that I do waste my time goofing off sure but there are some things I consider this goofing off this is goofing off and you know it's a good positive things that you really don't know the words who you should get to define this absolute right right and so um you know this is a great podcast I actually I have three other podcasts that I do and I have nine or ten other blogs that I do and maybe I should just focus on maybe two blogs a week in one pot I don't know and and I think I can turn those into a positive rather than negative like like I have my my comic strip that I always wanted to work on that I'm behind in that yeah I love you though my Christmas present to my family that I haven't gotten them yet it's April yeah I don't know it's I gave my my mom's birthday was in April I gave her her Christmas present for her birthday yeah because and you guys know what my Christmas present was absolutely Photoshop deal that they did for all my friends but I haven't done it for my family and you know several other blogs a little podcast which unfortunately aren't super popular but you know people do listen to like two people in the world listen to them and I feel bad when I let those two people down but you know I gotta focus on my goods enough what can I say okay and you don't want to make yourself better at all right no I'm good okay that's what actually I have been and it wasn't from today's lesson but it was interesting because lately I have been focusing on getting stuff done like I have all these ideas I have all these different things floating around there and I mean getting stuff done I took the GMAT because I want to get it done so it taken me five years but I finally know what I'm getting it done um I have this you know a business idea right now you know I'm like you know what I'm doing it I don't know how I'm doing it but I'm doing and you know last night I sat down programmed one of the pages I just did it's ugly it's fine I'll change it later but at least it started so yeah that's all alright when you finish back and you please get half level six of the original Legend of Zelda it's impossible it is impossible egg laying all right yeah okay anyway um let's move on yeah what's next week for Sunday school by the way uh it's state conference next week oh that's right okay so take your elbows next no leader but you guys want to do something great we might still be stay or we go so so I don't maybe okay fine okay well we have a little bit of time left right I have to go pretty soon but so a quick second topic geography of the book moron so we hi landed someone somewhere on this North or South America and the action of the the Book of Mormon has you know take place you know somewhere around here we don't know exactly where three models okay and a-one of course is landed South America there's a narrow neck of land which is middle America and the Nephites were in North America the lane lines during the South America the gold plates eventually wound up of course in North America in New York second model everything is just much smaller than that everything happens around like Panama somewhere and that's right where the narrow neck of land is north of the Panama Canal pretty much is the land of bountiful land Zarahemla where the the Jered i'ts jerry lights were which you know and and then south of that is where the Lamanites were anybody know what the third model is I'm not entirely certain I I don't know that I would necessarily agree with the whole Panama thing because I still see that as just well it's the same thing as the big one except it's in a probably tighter knit area yeah one of the other theories I've heard is actually that it was up further from the shoot what it way I want to say that it's miss of Tehuantepec or something it was like further north of the Panama so not necessarily right in Central America Yucatan er yeah yeah okay so just stop in Mexico okay right the UK I guess I did Central America isn't it sorry I don't kind of Dayton someone is saying is that the one that said like the Yucatan comes up in the West sea is actually the Gulf of Mexico we would consider the EC but it's on the west of that Peninsula and so that's why we I'm not remembering my geography that Wikipedia version I'm looking right now yeah there is a really interesting it's too bad we can't be gathered by the compute I guess we can be gathered by the computer because I have a couple of pages up you know with some of this Baylor oh sorry go ahead to the third one the third one which means I guess we should say the fourth one is actually in the Great Lakes area oh yes which um remember yeah I like it is like the Great Lakes and like the Finger Lakes area of New York that was considered where you know the land of many waters were for example and the archaeological evidence behind that you know because there's a little bit of archaeological evidence for this for example in in the second one you know the Panama area you have the the Mayan civilization is kind of similar to the Nephites and they have the temples and stuff and then before them was the Olmec civilization which stays like that corresponds very well to Jared right so you know there you go in in the Great Lakes area they they found similarities with I think some one group mound builders yeah I've heard about them they're like Native American Mound others but you know kind of have similar things to me finds but and of course the Hill Cumorah is right there if if the action did take place in Central America somewhere Moreau and I didn't have to walk across the entire continent to go upstate New York he was already there which that sounds right so um anyway what do you guys think where do you think I would have to take it to the Central America there is the one that I want to learn yeah it was really because structurally you see all of the things that are there it's clear that there were ancient societies there it's roughly around the same general time period and it's clear that there is some sort of historical correlation in certain the way he's that you collected so I would I would put it there I certainly would say that first and the last one to like North and South America are the land northward and align southward I would throw that right out just because of the fact that you have people who are traveling from the land southward up to the land northward in a matter of a couple of days yeah yeah physically there's just no way possible for that to happen yeah and the one at the end where you say that the Great Lakes area I would have to say no to that because I don't know of any narrow neck of land that could be utilized as a okay this is the narrow neck of land yeah I think here's the the two seas on either side well it's between the two Great Lakes perhaps yeah I just can't buy that because all it takes is a guy you know who walks around them you know in two days and says oh these are like they're it's not a see there's stuff on the other side I think it'd take a lot more than two days to walk around agree well here's the thing though the reason I can't get into the Great Lakes thing is I can't figure out where Lehigh or the mule archives because of Atlantis but I put me in the middle of the concert that's my deal and you know I pledge we're gonna have to revisit this because you know I I just kind of glanced at this the people who espouse these have all the reasons that I didn't look at it I just kind of wanted to either Vidal farms has a huge research on yeah um here's my experience with I never even thought about it I didn't care so I got to the mission I was like yeah they're landing and we don't anything here we don't need to tell we don't really again this is all just were talking out our yeah um when I get to Chile I was indoctrinated in the local missionary custom of knowing that they told me they straight up I my companion Missouri like yeah this really landed I'm like what I mean this really like it was up at Vimy old Omar I'm like if I land in Chile like yeah I'm like well how do you know it's like oh there's been numerous apostles who said this I'm like really and I there were stories in one of them I did here from a very reputable I said the elder machi Frederick or something no elder Irene no no no Elroy was our Holland I can't remember but they said like he was obedient he was being able to SiC present their authorities that said I have a strong feeling this is wearing if I'd landed and I actually had a mission conference where the area president said nephew H Elena which is me by was Chilean he said that like you like Oh case is the history of the things but in fairness as you've mentioned many times Chileans have a way older claiming well the very present was from Otto oh okay okay sorry um but I had other issues with him we could talk about another day but that I listen things talk about when know when we should question our leaders what's wrong question I think that's a fun one because he was an area president and I had huge issues with him right up to the moment where he drowned Thank You Frankie we're actually going to mention that good which I heard Fisher say it was that God that he died it I was like I would like that'll be a whole that's definitely mad good money makes that but you can some really good this the one the one thing about the Nephites possibly happened in Chile that countryside was built for what happened to performance there's these little Hills that come out in the middle of nowhere we played out as Michigan's Imperial high commence despot it felt like you're in the Book of Mormon and we would hike around these goody especially the daddy's mountains being there that's the one thing that I was kind of like well wouldn't we have more mentions of huge huge mountains it look look informative I mean through the Andes is not a trick it's one of the interesting things is the fact that we never ever and why another reason why I don't like the Great Lakes region is we never want to hear anything about cold weather or snow yeah an actual Chile it doesn't ever snow it doesn't know as you can see it yeah but you can go I mean so if you had farther north I could definitely see you okay that's why I feel like it was more the system along the equator well my parents went on a trip to the Yucatan politia and the the glocal guys to Rio probably so from from Utah goes you Mormon like yeah goes so do you want the Mormon version of the story we gathered LDS and he was like showed up like yeah like yeah they thought a table here to add it said and it came to pass on it I made sure my I don't know we need farms to get in on this but that's all my take on this so far okay well I'm just gonna save the second one the Panama you know just because I mean that just a narrow neck landed okay um my question but you guys with a lot on the west side of the cognate ELISA I'd always thought the west side I didn't I get to Chile I realized that they were stay in the west side and I'm like really so John I believe it was my means okay I mean I not not every book in the Bible what did you read it there are guesses we don't know that I'm saying yeah I think I'm like 90 you know so much flak for the book of war was like look survival like it's it's a book on faith take what you want out of it the hope it's clear that any sort of meaningful testimony should be built upon the spirit and not you know what evidence one can gain through physical means because numerous apostles and gospel teachers have said that's not going to be a testimony folds up if it's based off of historical evidence it's never going to hold up or bear you through the trials that will come in your life if you have a testimony that's centered upon Christ and the spirit then you are going to be able that that's a testimony that's going to be a value and worth okay nevertheless I do want to yeah you've got this topic I'll okay blondie yeah I enjoy it okay um by the way one more thing about geography we do have reference in the Book of Mormon of smell and that is in Lehigh's dream where they compare the fruit to the whiteness of driven snow all of the newest know was so they know it's know what those intrusive easy it snows in Jerusalem no no in generally Oh hastily can I say Anna was yeah this is that one we go first Nephi 11 8 the whiteness of the tree exceeds whiteness of driven snow we use as coating I mean yeah I mean he could've but in Isaiah Neil and I mean Israel was close to snow-capped mountains in Lebanon to the north but I think I think they were familiar with snow they didn't mention they also didn't mention hot weather although the Lamanites did run around and they run around pretty much naked it says so it must've been summer during the battles wherever they were hordes of central Berg it would have been Central America or could have been the Great Lakes region was very humid and you're gonna want to take some I'm not going to wear that heavy hot armor but it's it's not hot but really I guess it is in the summer I'm sorry Pennsylvania absolutely gets very very humid I had a brother-in-law who who served there and he it was creeks said it was crazy crazy hot I think Great Lakes I think Michigan yeah so do I Michigan but a constant I guess if you would talk to Lester greatly anyways okay yes okay random question and I asked Pete about this a couple weeks to go maybe I talk to you about this but okay let's think of a big characteristics of the LDS Church seen from the outside like what are some like some of the major things that people think of when you leave in Mormons okay polygamy no word of wisdom type stuff yeah drink a notice yet not me that's a pretty big one um the three I'm kind of going for that I think a very unique - and those are big polygamy is a big one very big one another one is some of years ago is not gonna master okay okay yeah well go on um blacks in the priesthood is a big one oh of course of course um answers it's not as much anymore but it was it yeah it was totally the other one is um forgot whole thing the same Oh three degrees of glory really I would ask what we've been going for I think I think those are some big you know like we'll take you or you know kind of kind of doctrinal aspects of a total of Mormonism okay godlike aspirations yeah um but mostly mostly three degrees of glory uh and as long as we're talking about the Book of Mormon I just wanted to ask you this well third no no it's look at me watching the priesthood of Jerry's glory hood which I that counts for three so that's five things polygamy which probably could be more than one thing the size of the priesthood so let's so Kingdom terrestrial Kingdom celestial so if I think to go uh okay don't don't you find it interesting this is kind of a what's up with that that I can't really figure out the Book of Mormon kind of addresses all three of these things the Book of Mormon addresses polygamy in Jacob three right this and what is addressed is don't do it The Book of Mormon addresses the afterlife quite often but pretty much without fail the after is composed of a hell and a heaven and no mention of three degrees of glory is mentioned in The Book of Mormon and the Book of Mormon and this is kind of mild but the Book of Mormon does mention when when it says you know the weight of Christ is open to all both white black and white bond and free that that passage from second define 26 and so it's this is my question what's up with that it's the Book of Mormon and the big things the really big things about Mormonism are covered in the Book of Mormon but they seem to say the opposite of what the doctrine actually that came about from double come on oh no because the doctorate Covenants is where we did all of the revelations all these doctrine mm-hmm and so if you want to live in the religion of the Book of Mormon year 1600 years too late but if you want to live in our religion it's the dr.
